Parish Records of Appleton Roebuck with Acaster Selby Finding Aid PR PARISH RECORDS (on deposit) APPLETON ROEBUCK WITH ACASTER SELBY (New Ainsty D) WR now deanery of Ainsty The parish of Acaster Selby was formed from Stillingfleet in 1850. Appleton Roebuck was formed in 1868 from the parish of Bolton Percy. In 1875 these two new parishes were joined to form what was initially called Acaster Selby with Appleton Roebuck, although the church at Appleton Roebuck was designated as the parish church. Between 1900 and 1905 the name was changed to Appleton Roebuck with Acaster Selby, but there seems to have been some confusion about the matter as the names were often used interchangeably. The arrangement of the records reflects the complicated history of the parish, since some records (ego. the parish registers) started out life as belonging to one or other of the new parishes, but became joint records after 1875 AR 1 APPLETON ROEBUCK WITH ACASTER SELBY 1/ 1- 5 Parish registers ]see also 1/52] 1 baptisms 1864-1920 2 marriages 1853-1970 3 burials 1850-1974 (Acaster Selby churchyard) 4 burials 1868-1958 (Appleton Roebuck churchyard) 5 banns 1850-1953 1/ 6-10 Service registers 6 1901-1907 (including list of confirmation candidates) 7 1919-1931 8 1931-1943 9 1954-1964 10 1964-1974 (see also 1/50 below) 1/11 Confirmation register 1911-1953 1/12-17 Formation of parish of Appleton Roebuck with Acaster Selby 12 correspondence with Ecclesiastical Commission about formation of new parish May - Nov. 1875 (11 letters) 13 draft scheme for new parish 1875 14 copy instrument substitfiting church of All Saints, Appleton Roebuck for church of St John, Acaster Selby, as parish church of new parish 9 Dec. 1875 15 London Gazette entries for formation of new parish 26 Oct. 1875 and transfer of patronage 27 June 1876 16 four letters from archbishop of York answering various questions about new parish posed by incumbent 3 Dec. 1875- 7 Apr. 1876 17 similar letter from archdeacon Hey 27 Mar. 1877 1/18-25 Parsonage house and dilapidations 18 mortgage by Rev.
