It gives first an approaeh to conventional orthography# then a close phonetie trans­ cription# followed by a definition In English. An attempt has been made to get a French equivalent to the meaning of the dialect word. #here the dialect word had another meaning in Standard French# that vac also included. INTRODUCTION The object of this thesis i s a glo ssa ry of the French of Evangeline Parish as it varies from Standard French* in meaning or pronunciation. The author has lived in Evangeline Parish all his life* For con* firmaticn of the variants found* he interviewed residents of Ville Platte* Maaoti* Basils* Bdlaire Cove* and other country districts* INTRODUCTION This glossary doos not pretend to be complete even in its limited scope of compiling variants from Standard French.
