The church has a series of plaques on the walls and dedications on some of the windows. Some of the plaques date from the old church. As explained on a metal plaque, the old St Michael’s church was demolished in 1835 and a new, large church built on the site, this being opened in 1836. Another plaque states that in 1899 the galleries were removed. A survey of the memorial was undertaken by David Houldridge in 1980. A copy of this is at Bath Record Office is entitled St Michael with St Paul - Memorial Tablets inside the Church by David L Houldridge, 1980 (116 records). A limitation of this 1980 description is that it does not have photographs to readily identify the memorials. In this document civil registrations, census entries and other information have been used to obtain the dates for the individuals mentioned on the memorials. In addition where individuals have been mentioned by a shortened form of the name, these have been expanded so that they can be more readily identified. It omits the memorials in the crypt. 1 St Michael extra Muros, Bath – Internal Memorials West Side East Side South side 2 St Michael extra Muros, Bath – Internal Memorials 3 St Michael extra Muros, Bath – Internal Memorials Memorial Plaques Names Inscriptions Notes 1 Luke Rugg Watts (1801- In 1865) Memory _ of _ Luke Rugg Watts Churchwarden of this Parish from 1845 to 1865 He conscientiously served his generation with Wisdom, Diligence, and Kindness He died on the 9th of August 1865. aged 64, regretted by his fellow-citizens some of whom have erected this memorial.
