PASTORE Governor ot the State ot Rhode Island Our Honorary Degree Recipients BENJAMIN F. FAIRLESS President and Chairman of the Executive Committee of the United States Steel Corporation, Director of United States Steel Corporation (New Jersey) and Director of United States Steel Corporation (Delaware) . Appointed Chief Administrative Officer of the Corporation in 1938. In 1942 appointed a member of the Advisory Staff of Major General Levin H. Campbell, Jr., Chief of Ordnance of the War Department. He is also a member of the Iron and Steel Industry Advisory Com­ mittee of the War Production Board. He was awarded the Medal for Merit by the War Department in 1946. In 1949 the American Iron and Steel Institute presented him with the Gary Memorial Medal for "outstanding achievements in handling problems of steel supply for war and peace, and in fostering a better understanding of the iron and steel industry". He has also been given honorary degrees of doctor of engineering by Ohio Northern University; doctor of science degree by Kent State University, Kent, Ohio; doctor of science degree by the University of Pittsburgh; doctor of engineering by Stevens Institute of Technology; and doctor of laws by Bethany College, Bethany, West Virginia. COLONEL CLEMENT KENNEDY President of the New Ocean House, Swampscott, Massachusetts; has lectured on hotel management at Boston University and Cornell University. Director of several banking institutions, and of industrial and insurance companies. Vice President of the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital of Boston. Member of the Army Advisory Board. Awarded the Medal of Merit in 1946 for meritorious duty as Chief of the Planning Division and Director of Troop Training in the First Service Command. Decorated with the Sovereign Military Order of Malta by Pope Pius XU in 1940. HIS EXCELLENCY, JOHN O . PASTORE Admitted to the Rhode Island Bar in 1932.
