This directory is for anyone who is seeking information on where to locate HIV/AIDS services and support in Gauteng. WHAT INFORMATION DOES THE DIRECTORY CONTAIN? Within the directory you will find information on organisations that provide HIV/AIDS-related services and support in each municipality within Gauteng. We have provided full contact details, an organisational overview and a listing of services for each organisation. Details on a range of HIV-related services are provided, from government clinics that dispense anti-retro- viral drugs (ARVs) and provide Voluntary Counselling and Testing (VCT), to faith-based and non-governmental interventions and Community Home-based Care and food parcel support programmes. HOW DO I USE THE DIRECTORY? There are close to 1300 organisations working in HIV/AIDS in Gauteng. To help you to locate services that are relevant to your needs this information has been categorised in a number of ways: • The organisations in this directory have been sorted into district municipalities and local municipalities. • Coloured dividers with maps are provided for each district municipality. Use these maps to familiarise yourself with areas in which you might want to find HIV-related services. • Gauteng has six district municipalities, three of which are further sub-divided into several local municipalities. • Locate local municipality labels on the bottom right or left hand tab of each page. • HIV-related services have been listed alphabetically by local municipality. • If you do not find the information you are looking for in this directory or you would like to amend any details, simply call our HIV-911 Data Collection Centre on 0860 HIV 911 / 0860 448 911 or send us an email on [email protected] • Further particulars can also be located on the HIV-911 website and online directory at www.hiv911.org.za WHY IS THE DIRECTORY NECESSARY? There are many efforts to curb the spread of HIV/AIDS and alleviate its impact on our country. Sadly, while a great deal of effort and resources are directed towards dealing with HIV, when in need many people do not know where to locate organ- isations that can provide HIV-related services and support. In addition, many organisations are unaware of the efforts of, and potential benefits of, collaborating with other HIV-related organisations. The HIV-911 database has been constructed with these specific needs in mind. We believe that an effective response to the HIV epidemic requires a coordinated mobilisation of all resources in a specific community. We hope that you find this directory facilitates such a networking response in your community. EXAMPLES OF HOW THIS DIRECTORY MIGHT BE USEFUL TO YOU: • Service providers can locate supplementary support services for their clients; • Infected and affected people can easily and confidentially locate HIV support services which are appropriate to their needs; • AIDS Service Organisations can locate likeminded support services, facilitating networking and partnership building, and in this manner make better use of scarce resources; and • Donor organisations can obtain a good sense of the availability and distribution of HIV-related services, thereby helping them to assess funding requests and allocate funding more strategically. 4 HOW WAS THE INFORMATION COLLECTED? HIV-911 staff collated information from a number of HIV-related databases and listings of services. Organisations were called and their infor- mation was checked and updated. Every organisation called was asked to provide the names and contact details of other HIV-related support services that they networked with. In this manner, the HIV-911 team connected with many of the organisations providing HIV-related support services in the province. This was, and continues to be, a time-consuming but important process! We did our best to ensure that we reached all HIV-related organisations in Gauteng and captured their efforts comprehensively. Unfortunately, the HIV environment changes rapidly and so the directory database will never be complete. We therefore offer apologies in advance if there is any incomplete or incorrect information in this directory and we ask that you alert us to any inconsistencies and inaccuracies so as to help us to keep the directory database as cur- rent and comprehensive as possible. HOW DO WE KEEP THE INFORMATION UP TO DATE? The HIV-911 data capture team is continually reviewing and updating the HIV-911 database on which this directory is based. We are count- ing on you to help us to keep our database current. Please therefore alert us to any incomplete or incorrect information you may find in the pages of this directory. If you find a service is missing or details need updating, please contact us so that we can amend or add this infor- mation for the next directory. We have provided a Organisational Update Form at the back of this directory to help you to do this for us. You can also call the HIV-911 Data Collection Centre on 0860 HIV 911 / 0860 448 911. The HIV-911 Data Collection Centre staff can update information or add new services, as well as assist with locating HIV-related services throughout the country. It is now also possible to update your details on line at http://www.hiv911.org.za/hivanaddorg.php WHO PRODUCES THE HIV-911 DIRECTORY? HIV-911 is a programme of the Centre for HIV/AIDS Networking (HIVAN) based at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. Over the past six years HIVAN has worked to develop and expand the HIV-911 programme which now includes an online national directory and website (www.hiv911.org.za); a Data Collection Centre (0860 HIV 911 / 0860 448 911) and a series of hard copy directories for each province in the country. The Gauteng directory is the third directory in a national series of provincial directories that will be produced by the HIV-911 Programme until 2010. Copies of the Gauteng Provincial Directory will be mailed out to as many service providers as possible throughout the province with additional copies available for purchase at low cost. For more information and answers to other frequently asked questions about this project, call 0860 HIV 911 / 0860 448 911 or log on to www.hiv911.org.za WHO ARE OUR PROJECT PARTNERS? The HIV-911 national directory project is funded by the Foundation for Professional Development (FPD) through PEPFAR/USAID. The FPD has been registered with the Department of Education as a Private Higher Institution under the Higher Education Act, 1997 (Registration Certificate number 2002/HE07/013). The FPD is also an accredited service provider for continuous professional development (CPD) by the Medical and Dental Professions Board of the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA). The FPD is currently the largest self-funding health sector educational provider in South Africa. The FPD has three key focus areas: education, research and capacity building - more specifical- ly in the areas of health and management. HIV-911 is a partner of the FPD through the Compass Project. This FPD initiative strives to assist com- munities to respond effectively to HIV through three key programmes: 1) an HIV and AIDS Mapping and Research Centre to achieve accurate epidemiological data and gap analysis for communities; 2) Information and Resource Collaboration for locating HIV and AIDS services/organisations; and 3) Organisational Development and Capacity Building through organisational needs assessments, benchmarking and skills building for community organisations. For more information on the FPD and the Compass Project, please visit www.foundation.co.za and www.compassproject.co.za The South African Medical Association (SAMA) has collaborated with HIV-911 in the printing and mail out of the national directory series. As a result of this partnership, funds have been raised to enable each clinician, registered as a SAMA member, to receive a complementary copy of the provincial directory relevant to their needs. HELP US TO EXPAND THE HIV-911 DIRECTORY PROGRAMME Funding is being sought to support production of additional copies of the provincial directories, and to further capacitate the HIV-911 Programme of the Centre for HIV/AIDS Networking (HIVAN). HIVAN operates on not for profit principles and relies on donations, grants and fundraising to support its services. Funds for HIVAN are raised through the University of KwaZulu-Natal Foundation, a registered Section 21 Company, registration number 030-967-NPO / PBO 9300 16101. To advertise in the HIV-911 provincial directories or to support the ongoing activities of the HIV-911 Programme please contact HIVAN on (031) 260 3052 or email the Project Director, Debbie Heustice on [email protected] All revenue generated from the directory project will be used to support the ongoing efforts of the HIV-911 Programme. 5 CITY OF JOHANNESBURG District Municipality: JHB City of Johannesburg Local Municipalities: JHB City of Johannesburg NAME 4th Avenue Clinic NAME ACFS Community Nutritional Education and Feeding Scheme DESCRIPTION A primary health care facility also offering HIV/AIDS (ACFS) related services.
