Mr Miloš Zeman, on his visit to the Republic of Serbia 10 – 12 September 2019 www.komora.cz 3 Ladies and gentlemen, I extend a warm greeting to you on the occasion of my official state visit to Serbia, where I am returning after five years. I am very pleased that, as president, I can take this opportunity to contribute to the promotion of relations between the Czech Republic and the Republic of Serbia, which, thanks to their tra- ditional historical and human ties, are deep and wide-ranging. The Czech Republic supports the integration of Serbia in the EU and gladly passes on to it its experience of the transforma- tion processes. I am pleased to be able to repay today´s Presi- dent Aleksandar Vučić, at least partly for his hospitality during his stay in the Czech Republic in October at this year´s V4+ presidential summit. Last year, the mutual trade turnover between the Czech Republic and Serbia increased by more than 25 percent exceeding EUR 1 billion. The Czech Republic welcomes technically skilled work- ers from Serbia coming to CR. To facilitate their arrival, at the end of last year the Czech Republic launched a special visa ap- plication programme with an annual quota of 2 000 employ- ment visas. I am pleased to note that Czech firms in Serbia are active, especially in the areas of telecommunications, banking, engineering, heat supply systems, and power engineering, as well as water management and transport. Ladies and gentlemen, I am firmly convinced that you will find promising partnerships in Serbia and that the current visit will help strengthen economic cooperation with Serbia, and with the Western Balkans in general, a region which is one of the priorities of Czech foreign policy. I hope that during your busy programme you will also find time to enjoy the beauties of this historically, culturally and culinary rich country. I wish you the best of success. Miloš Zeman President of the Czech Republic 4 Dear friends, I am pleased to address you on behalf of the Czech Chamber of Commerce entrusted with the organisation of the business mis- sion, which accompanies the President of the Czech Republic, H.E. Mr Miloš Zeman, on his official visit to the Republic of Serbia. Economic cooperation between the Czech Republic and the Republic of Serbia dating long back into the past has been for years on a very good standard, mainly thanks to the activity of Czech and Serbian companies. In recent years, mutual eco- nomic relations have been characterised by an increasing trade turnover, especially in respect of Czech exports, with the Czech business community showing growing interest in this impor- tant Western Balkan country. Serbia is one of the priority trade partners of the Czech Republic. Czech business people offer co- operation especially in the traditional sectors, such as transport infrastructure, engineering, the power industry, water manage- ment and the environment. Areas, which have assumed special importance recently, are small hydroelectric power stations, in- vestment in the manufacture of waste management equipment and services, e.g. recycling. Currently, Czech investments in Ser- bia are realised mainly at the level of small and medium-size en- terprises. In the future, wider cooperation is to be expected not only in trading, but also in investment projects, partly in connec- tion with Serbia´s approaching full membership of the European Union, which the Czech Republic supports. I am firmly convinced that this mission will contribute to the further development of mutual commercial and investment cooperation between the Czech Republic and the Republic of Serbia. Thanks to the Czech Republic´s industrial tradition and technological in- ventiveness Czech firms are among the best worldwide and can offer globally competitive products and services. I am pleased that the Czech Chamber of Commerce with the support of the President of the Czech Republic may help with seeking new partnerships and striking new joint projects. I wish you the best of success in your negotiations.
