The event is free and open to the public. The Haverford alum often describes himself as the media personality who represents viewers who have a double-consciousness: people of color who identify with conservatism. Despite selling this representation, Williams often finds himself in hot water for his defamatory comments and point of view. In the early 1990s, Williams immensely supported Supreme Court Justice, then nominee, Clarence Thomas after he was accused by attorney/professor Anita Hill for sexual harassment. After revealing his support for Justice Thomas, Williams, too, was accused of similar allegations by co-workers at The Washington Post. Years later, Williams was terminated by NPR after making salacious comments about Muslims during an interview with Bill O’Reilly. Although Williams built a media career working for outlets that express moderate to liberal political views, Williams' controversial remarks ushered him into working at Fox News full-time after former employers distanced themselves from him. In 2009, prior to terminating him, NPR requested that Fox News not identify Williams as their employee when featured on their programming. The non-profit media news outlet came to this decision when Williams described Former First Lady Michelle Obama as being a “Black militant Stokely Carmichael in a designer dress” that year. In 2010, NPR ended their contract with Williams because “he had more than once expressed personal opinions on controversial issues while offering commentary on other media outlets' shows,” Former NPR CEO Vivian Schiller said in a statement. Since then, Williams serves as the co-host of Fox News Channel’s The Five and a political analyst on Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace. President Dr. Walter Kimbrough believes Williams is an engaging orator whose alternative viewpoints will expose the campus community to new ideations. Dillard University, located in New Orleans at 2601 Gentilly Blvd., is a private four-year liberal arts historically black institution with a history dating back to 1869.
