You will learn how to bind a quilt from start to finish in one class. We will learn an easy way to fold and cut your fabric on the bias. Together we will sew the cut binding pieces together to make one long binding strip and then discuss how to fold and press the binding in half and place it on your quilt sandwich. Next we will learn how to fold and stitch corners. Valerie will then show how to finish the quilt off with a joining that does not show. Finally, she will teach how to hand sew your binding down and around the corners. This binding techniques taught in this class have resulted in award winning binding. We will discuss the benefits of bias binding and how to select the right thimbles and notions to meet your binding needs. The class kit can be purchased on the day of class. Class Supplies: Sewing machine in good working order (we rent sewing machines for $10/ day) Walking foot Black and white thread 24" ruler rotary cutter straight pins scissors Valerie March, Instructor Biography Valerie Marsh has been sewing since she was in Junior High School when she took her first home economics class. She helped her Mom make tie quilts for her new nieces and nephews when they came along and always enjoyed doing that. Valerie took her first quilting class over 30 years ago and has been quilting ever since. After she retired from teaching school, she has really been involved in quilting. Valerie has worked and taught in two different Quilt Shops and now pieces for Joanna Figueroa of Fig Tree Quilts. Valerie has also won ribbons for her quilts at the Utah State Fair and the Springville Quilt Show. She loves everything about quilting, from choosing the fabric to binding the quilt. She has made many wonderful friends through her quilting experiences. .
