Emergency Communications Bulletin 2009-2010 Emergency situations occasionally arise, which may require school schedule delays, closure, or changes in transportation. Therefore, we encourage you to: o Have a family plan covering actions to take in emergency situations. Please refer to the district’s EMERGENCY STUDENT-RELEASE PROCEDURE and other information distributed at the first of the year, when setting up your plan. (If you need this information, please contact the Community Relations Office - see below.) o Your plan should include: what to do if a bus does not arrive; who to call or contact; where to go for help; and other details. o Each family should assure that their current emergency information is on file at their child’s/children’s school(s). Accessing information about emergency situations: If weather/emergency situations cause delays or school closures, information is available from the following sources (please avoid calling the schools or transportation department): • 780-1556: District number for emergency information (recorded message) MEDIA STATIONS who make • Internet: www.schoolreport.org school emergency delay/closure • Media: Announcements start at 5:30 AM (or as soon as notice announcements include: Radio stations: can be given after an emergency) for schedule changes. AM KCIS 630 Our goal is to notify stations by 5:15 AM. KIRO 710 KIXI 880 Radio/TV stations will announce districts by name and KOMO 1000 district numbers - Bainbridge Island School District #303. KWDB 1110 KLAY 1180 If there is no report, schools are on normal schedules. KITZ 1400 Media announcements are made using the following FM KPLU 88.5 standard phrases: KVTI 90.9 KMPS 94.1 Schools closed - This means all Bainbridge Island KUOW 94.9 Public Schools will be closed for the day. All activities KXXO 96.1 KCMS 105.3 are cancelled. If conditions change during the day, special arrangements may be made for some activities. TV stations: Late start - Schools are open and late start times will be KOMO 4 KING 5/KONG 6 announced. Listen for information regarding different KIRO 7 KCPQ 13 programs, i.e. kindergarten, preschool, out-of-district, or special education. Schools will be dismissed at the regu- larly scheduled times. Please be aware of extreme road conditions in your specific area and be prepared with alternate plans for transportation. See “Limited Bus Service” below. Road restrictions - Some roads may be closed by the City due to thawing or other conditions. In this case, announcements will be made after notification by city officials. No announcement means normal operations! LIMITED BUS SERVICE Due to the new two-bell bus schedule being implemented in 2009-10, the Limited Bus Service schedule will be available and distributed as soon as possible. Please watch for that announcement. You will be notified of major changes via parent bulletins, on the district website, and through an email Listserv. Note: It is always applicable that buses will not stop in the middle of hills when traveling during inclement weather.
