This collection documents the artists that performed there in that time, as well as other organizational records. Records of note are: Artist Contracts, Administrative Records, Financial Statements and Records, Correspondence, Advertising and Publicity, and Artist Photographs. This collection brings to light the impact of music and culture in the Dayton Area, as well as the public appreciation of music in Dayton. It was founded by Elana and Vincent Bolling and was a widely admired series that brought hundreds of exceptional musicians to Dayton. After 54 years at the DAI, the Vanguard Concerts series came to a close in 2016. Vanguard's tradition of excellence continues under the auspices of the University of Dayton's ArtsLIVE series, which has served the University's campus and community audiences with adventurous, professional arts events since 1961. Vanguard Legacy Concerts continues to be curated by Elana Bolling. - Page 3- Vanguard Concert SeriesUASC.042 ^ Return to Table of Contents Scope and Contents These records document the administrative, financial, public relations, and artist activities within the Vanguard Concert Series. The majority of these records are from1980 through 2000-01. This collection contains artist information, promotional material, artist contracts, advertising, correspondence, financial records, photographs, and other miscellaneous documents. Series I, Featured Artists, 1976-2000, contains various documents about the various artists that performed at the Dayton Art Institute from 1976-2000. These documents contain concert programs, publicity papers and advertisements, photographs, and other documents pertaining to a specific artist. Series II, Administrative Records, 1966-2002, contains administrative papers pertaining to the daily work of the Vanguard Concert Series. This series contains artist contracts, correspondence from artist management companies, and documents from the Ohio Arts Council. Series III, Financial Records, 1976-2004, contains financial records for the Vanguard division of the Dayton Art Institute. This series contains deposit records, receipts, accounts payable records, invoices, tax return information, and grant information. Series IV, Advertising and Publicity, 1965-2006, contains advertising and publicity papers for Vanguard events, fundraisers, and other non-concert events. This series includes subscription lists, newspaper clippings, press releases, public relations documents, and other forms of advertising. Series V, Correspondence, 1988-2000, contains correspondence between Vanguard and various groups such as artist managers, subscribers, patrons, and local businesses. Series VI, Artist Photographs, 1978-1998, contains headshot and group photographs of the artists that performed at the Dayton Art Institute for Vanguard Concerts.
