KALMUCK (Gritsch) Gruner Veltliner Federspeil 2010 the growers The Mauritiushof—a 13th century farmstead—houses an estate recognized as both a guardian of tradition and a vanguard of the ambitious in the Wachau. Franz‐Josef Gritsch i s y o u n g , enterprising and successful, and he constantly strives to realize the best quality possible. Together with his family he tends vineyard parcels in some of the top sites in the Wachau: Singerriedel, 1000‐Eimerberg and Loibenberg. Varietal typicity, vineyard character and a fruit forward flavor profile are the three most eminent features of Gritsch's wine. The Kalmuck wines were introduced in 2004 as a lively addition to the portfolio. their land AUSTRIA | WACHAU The Wachau is located in Lower Austria along the Danube River, west of Vienna. While most of Austria follows a wine classification system like that used in Germany (based on ripeness), Wachau has its own unique classification system. The three classification levels for Wachau wine include Steinfeder for wines up to 11.5% alcohol, Federspiel for wines between 11.5–12.5%, and Smaragd wines with a minimum of 12.5% alcohol level. Despite its renown, the Wachau is a small wine region that usually accounts for only around 3% of Austria's wine production. Gritsch farms from nine distinct vineyard locations: Spitzer Singerriedel (old rock soil for Grüner); Spitzer 1000‐Eimerberg (gneiss soil with mica and quartz for Riesling and Neuburger); Loibner Loibenberg (Gfoehler gneiss for Grüner); Spitzer Setzberg (old rock soil for Riesling); Spitzer Steinporz (old rock soil for Riesling and Grüner); Spitzer Axpoint (loamy and sandy old rock soil for Grüner); Spitzer Hartberg (loamy soil for Sauvignon Blanc); Spitzer Pluris (sandy old rock soil for Riesling and Weißburgunder); and Donaugärten (loamy and sandy soils for Grüner). the wine 100% Grüner Veltliner Grapes sourced from a variety of stone terraces with primarily rocky soils from Spitz to Loiben. Alcohol: 12.5% in the glass The aromatic interplay of this wine offers a wonderful length from the nose through the palate and on down the hatch: white pepper and an array of meadow-blossoms. A wine that goes down unbelievably easy, with a beautiful interplay of fruit and acidity. www.valkyrieselections.com | www.mauritiushof.at .
