Tewkesbury Nature Reserve Ltd is in the process of establishing a Nature Reserve at Swilgate Meadows; a grassland site, with trees, bushes, balancing pond and other temporary ponds, with the R. Swilgate and Tirlebrook running through the site. The site is prone to flooding. This evening’s meeting was held to help with the audit of the area and a follow-up meeting was done 28th June 2011. 7 members attended on a dull evening after a dull day and found the following species: Arachnids: Theridion pictum 3f Enoplognatha ovata m Tetragnatha extensa Misumena vatia (white Pachynatha clerki female) Tetragnatha montana m Tibellus oblongus Larinioides cornutus Pisaura mirabilis Agelena labyrinthica Clubiona stagnatilis Philodromus cespitum Hypselistes jacksoni Mangora acalypha immature Hypselistes jacksoni to my knowledge has only been recorded once before from Coombe Hill Meadows, SO87-27-, 24/4/05 by John Harper. The Atlas (2002) says it is uncommon but can be frequent in wet or marshy areas and bogs and heathland. Mangora acalypha has not been recorded this far north, east of the R. Severn in Gloucestershire. The Atlas shows it as far north as Worcestershire and Norfolk. It is widespread in the FOD.
