California Lighthouse The old stone California lighthouse is within sight of the Tierra del Sol golf course and is popularly named for the off-shore wreck of the famous ship, “California.” Perched on a high seaside elevation, the lighthouse has become one of Aruba’s scenic trademarks and offers a picture perfect view of the island’s western coastline of sandy beaches. Tierra Del Sol Golf Course At the island’s northwest tip is Aruba’s first world- class golf course. The 18-hole, par-71 course was designed by Robert Trent Jones II to take full advantage of Aruba’s unique and rugged natural surroundings. From the wild, green parakeets on the organ-pipe cactus to the lizards and salamanders that bask on rock formations, the wildlife of Tierra del Sol has become an attraction in its own right. Alto Vista Chapel The picturesque Chapel of Alto Vista, the first chapel of Aruba, exudes tranquility on its dramatic setting above the sea. The chapel was built by the Indians and Spanish and is often referred to as the Pilgrim’s Church. The bright yellow chapel is reached by a winding road lined with white crosses marking the stations of the cross. For local Arubans especially, it is a special place for peace and contemplation. Bushiribana Gold Smelter On the northern coast, midway down the island, lie the abandoned gold mines that were the center of Aruba’s gold rush during the nineteenth century. In 1824, gold was finally discovered in Aruba, and eventually, the industry produced more than 3 million pounds of gold. Natural Bridge The island’s most photographed attraction is located on the north east coast. It’s called the Natural Bridge because it rises 25 feet above the sea and spans a hundred feet of rock-strewn waters carved out of solid coral by centuries of relentless pounding by the Atlantic surf. Conchi (Natural Pool) The location of the Pool is surrounded by some of Aruba’s most rugged terrain, so a visitor truly gets the feeling of having “discovered” something when their eyes focus on the site. Diving from the rock cliffs into the protected pool of ocean seawater is the main reason why so many venture here off the beaten path. Dos Playa Surrounded by a rocky coastline, Dos Playa is a white beach with great waves. Advanced surfers go for an extreme surfing experience here, as the strong winds can be overwhelming for novice enthusiast. Boca Prins A small beach next to picturesque sand dunes, two rocky cliffs, and crashing waves. Fontein Cave The Fontein Cave is the most popular of the caves as it is the only one that has the drawings of Arawak Indians on the ceilings, providing a real sense of island history to this cave. Cunuco Arikok The Government of Aruba has dedicated approximately 18 percent of the island to this national park and was first designated as an area of significant national importance in the early 1980’s. It is an area of unique scenic beauty, flora and fauna, geological formations and cultural resources. It has many walking trails that are well kept and open to the public for exploring. Guadirikiri Cave The Guadirikiri Cave is famous for its two chambers where sunlight shines through and is the perfect backdrop for unique pictures. Be adventurous and dare to go down the 100 foot long tunnel, home of hundreds of harmless bats. Although its exact history is not known with any certainty, caves like this one are said to have been the hiding places of pirates! Tunnel of Love & Huliba Cave The Huliba Cave is also known as the Tunnel of Love because of the heart shaped opening at its entrance. Boca Grandi Beach One of the few places to swim on the exposed northern coast, it is like a private beach with treasures to be discovered under the waters. Bachelor’s Beach Bachelors Beach is only accessible when winds are from the West. Do not attempt this dive without a guide. Currents can surprise you. Colorado Point Lighthouse To find the Colorado Point Lighthouse, head out of San Nicolas on 1A until you hit a fork in the road. Follow the signs toward Seroe Colorado. Baby Lagoon Beach Baby Beach is located in the area known as Seroe Colorado at the southeastern end of the island. It got its name because the calm and shallow waters make it ideal for children and/or inexperienced swimmers. Snorkelers will enjoy gorgeous coral heads in the channel. It is located close to the Baby Beach, offering shady areas and shower facilities. It was a popular place for those that worked at the oil refinery and their families. Commandeurs Baai The Dutch “Westindische Compagnie” took over the islands of Aruba, Curaçao and Bonaire in 1636 from the Spanish, and a new economic and politic plan was introduced. Curaçao was the operational base for the chief “Commandeur”. Aruba and Bonaire had each their own “Commandeur.” Commandeurs Baai is one of the first shipping harbors on Aruba. Santo Largo Beach Saveneta Beach is a good sunning beach far from the crowds of the hotel area further North. Snorkeling is good in the shallows, and with a bit of a kick-out, the diver will be rewarded with a nice shelf to explore. Mangel Halto Beach A favorite location for picnics on its white sand and shallow waters, Mangel Halto Beach is easily accessible by public bus, taxi or car. Excellent swimming conditions in calm water. Accessible by public bus, taxi or car. The sand remains white but the strand narrows considerably, and the surf becomes more restless. Rocks and pebbles come out in profusion here.
