There are more than 12,000 attendees - the larGest GatherinG of public health professionals and over 1,000 scientific sessions that brinG toGether US and international public health colleaGues to educate, network, and inspire each other. The theme of this meetinG was “CreatinG the Healthiest Nation: Health Equity Now” and the conference provided the opportunity to network with experts and colleaGues about emerGinG public health issues and the latest research and practice. A total of 17 faculty and students from the OPHS attended and presented their research at the conference. We also hosted an exhibit booth in the APHA Exhibition Hall to show a wide variety of academic and research activities of our Bachelor, Master, and Doctorate programs, includinG our international exchanGe proGram and collaboration with APACPH. In addition, OPHS orGanized a public health social niGht to celebrate and network with colleaGues, friends, students, and alumni during the meeting. 4 2018 summer international exchange Program A total of 13 students from three Schools of Public Health of Wuhan, Fudan and NanchanG Universities came to Hawaii for the international exchanGe proGram for one month in 2018 summer. The exchanGe proGram comprised a lot of traininGs and visitinG activities, includinG traininGs on research data analysis, writinG publishable manuscripts in EnGlish, and bioloGy laboratory techniques; and visitinG/cultural exchanGe activities to local public health orGanizations and communities, Hawaii state environmental health manaGement proGrams and facilities, and attendinG UHM summer teachinG and meetinGs in Public Health. The summer proGram has produced two accepted papers and five manuscripts currently under review. Faculty exchanges between Hawaii and China A total of 4 faculty members of University of Hawaii visited China in 2018 and each tauGht a PH course or Gave scientific seminars in the collaboration universities in China. More than 10 faculty from China collaboration schools visited Hawaii, and five of them completed their one-year research and traininG at OPHS of UHM in 1 UHM-2019 Spring different areas of their interest. Two faculty of SPH of NanchanG University are GoinG to come to Hawaii for one year study in Environmental Health and Health Management. Hawaii and Nanchang Public Health Platform This Platform was planned over a year aGo but has not yet coducted yet due to the leadership chanGe and other related issues from NanchanG University. Both NanchanG and Hawaii have considered this paltform to be an important event for both universities but will finalize a new meetinG date shortly. The main objective of this platform are: a) to hiGhliGht and promote the current Hawaii – China Academic exchanGe; b) to explore further collaboration in many important areas of global health; and c) to siGn the 2nd 5-year international exchanGe aGreement in Public Health between UHM and NanchanG University. The platform will cover 3 topics: 1) AGinG of the Asian and Pacific Population; 2) Health Policy and Reform StrateGy; and 3) Global Public Health – Present ChallenGinG and Future Direction International exchange agreement update Secretary JiminG Hu and other three leaders of the SPH of Wuhan University visitied UHM between July 30 and AuGust 3 of 2018 and siGned the 3rd 5-year agreement with the president of UHM David Lassner and Professor and Dean Kathryn Braun of OPHS; We are currently discussinG the 3rd 5-year aGreement with the SPH of Fudan university and the 2nd 5-year aGreement with SPH of NanchanG University, and We anticipate that these aGreements will be siGned shortly because of mutual interest in continuinG the international collaboration. New agreements for international collaboration In addition of Fudan, Wuhan and NanchanG universities, we have recently siGned an international exchanGe aGreement with the School of Public ShanGhai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and School of Health ManaGement of JianGxi University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, two top universities in traditional Chinese medicine in China. The main objectives of these newly siGned aGreement ehphasize international exchanGe and collaboration in PH education and research traininG. Short- and lonG-term visitinG, exchanGe and research collaboration are part of the aGreement for the students and faculty between the two parties. • 12 PH students will be selected from the three collaboration universities of China for this summer exchanGe proGram in February 2019. • 2019 PH Symposium between NanchanG University and UHM. Future Plan • The President of Wuhan University is GoinG to visit UHM in 5 for the June 2019 and to siGn an aGreement to continue the joint ReGion: Bechalor-Master educational proGram (4+2) established 5 years aGo between UHM and Wuhan University. • NanchanG University deleGate to be led by their President Zhou plan to visit UHM and siGn the 2nd 5-year aGreement for international exchanGe.
