The Committee Composition: Tournaments, 2012-2013

Nordic Chess Federation Women’s Committee The committee composition: Emilia Horn (Sweden) Oksana Vovk (Denmark) Ida Lahlum (Norway) Niina Koskela (Finland) Gudný Erla (Iceland) Herborg Hansen (The Faeroe Islands) Tournaments, 2012-2013: The Nordic Championship for Women 2013 was supposed to be held in Iceland in September, but was cancelled due to too few registered participants. The same happened in 2009, when the championship was supposed to be held in Norway. It seems that in the present situation it is no good use trying to organize a tournament for only women. Instead, it is better to incorporate the championship in a larger tournament, like in 2011, when the Nordic Championship for Women was incorporated in Reykjavik Open in Iceland. There the organizers paid for one single hotel room or one double room for each Nordic country. The tournament attracted 18 women from the North; three from Sweden, two from Norway, two from Denmark, one from Finland and ten from Iceland. The European Individual Women Chess Championship 2012 was held in Gaziantep, Turkey 1 - 14 December (11 rounds). Valentina Gunina, Russia won the tournament with 8,5 p. There were 103 participants, but no one from the Nordic countries. The European Individual Women Chess Championship 2013 was held in Belgrade, Serbia 22 July - 4 August (11 rounds). The tournament had 169 participants, the North represented by GM Pia Cramling, Sweden and WGM Olga Dolzhikova, Norway. 1. GM Thanh Trang Hoang, Hungary, 9 p … 16. GM Pia Cramling, Sweden 7,5 p 71. WGM Olga Dolzhikova, Norway 6 p (169 participants) 1 The Chess Olympiad 2012 was held in Istanbul, Turkey 27 August – 10 September (11 rounds). The women’s class had 127 teams; all the Nordic countries were represented except for the Faeroe Islands. 1. Russia, 19 mp … 53. Iceland, 12 mp 57. Norway, 11 mp 63. Denmark, 11 mp 71. Finland, 11 mp 88. Sweden, 9 mp (115 teams) The European Club Cup for Women 2012 was held in Eilat, Israel 11 – 17 October (7 rounds). The Nordic countries didn’t have any participating teams, but GM Pia Cramling, Sweden played for the winning team; Cercle d’Echecs de Monte-Carlo, Monaco. Stockholm, October 2013 Emilia Horn, Chairwoman of the Women’s Committee, 2.
