Janet McCulloch of Myrtown. (17) Sir Patrick Vans of Barnbarroch m. Lady Catherine Kennedy. He served as Ambassador to the Court of Denmark and d. 1597. Their second son, Patrick Vaus(Vans) of Lybrack received an Ulster patent as undertaker in August 1610. The patent was for 1000 acres, Boylagh and Banagh barony Donegal. William Stewart of Dunduff provided planatation surety for Patrick Vaus. August 1614 estate passed to Sir Robert Gordon of Lochinvar and subsequently to John Murry late Earl of Annandale. (18) Sir John Vans-of Barnabarroch succeeded his father as ambassador to Denmark in 1597 and became genetleman of the Privy Chamber. He married Margaret McDowell of Gartland, d. 1642. (19) Reverend John Vans of Barnbarroch, Wigtownshire, Scotland, b. 1617, went from Scotland to Ireland and for many years was Rector of Kilmacrenan, County Donegal, d. 1661. His will was signed 11 Jo Vans" was filed in 1662 in the records of the Rolls of Dublin Castle, where his name is printed "Rev. John Vans A. M. 11 bears on its eal the arms of Vance of Barnbarroch who resided near Wigton, Wigton County, Scotland the most southwesterly county of Scotland, but only a short distance from the Irish coast. He was a Puritan clergyman and a refugee from persecution in Scotland. He married Agnes Rainey, the daughter of Ashe Rainey, and had six children: Lancelot, William, Jane, Rebecca, Maria, and Patrick. ( 20) Lance lot Vance (Vans) was a doctor and active at the siege of Londonderry where he died. He married Euphemia Murray and they had five children: Patrick, James (Lord Mayor of Dublin), John of Coagh, and two daughters who married a Wright and a Johnson. ( 21) John Vance of Coagh, County Tyrone, married Ma:!:'y Williamson of County Antrim, Ireland. They had six children: Elizabeth Vance who married Joseph Jackson, great-grandparents of President Andrew Jackson; Andrew Vance the emigrant to America; John Vance; James Vance who married Mary Hogg; Patrick Vance; and William Vance who married Elizabeth Wilkinson, dau. of Zechariah vh lkinson of County Antrim.
