HP Nonstop Network I/O Adapter, Telco CLIM

Data sheet HP NonStop network I/O adapter, Telco CLIM Telecommunication applications today utilize a variety of special protocols to manage and control the massive switching network that makes our land-based and wireless phone systems work. It is a very complex environment that demands the highest levels of reliability and fault tolerance. The Telco cluster I/O module (CLIM), along with the IP CLIM and the Storage CLIM, is a key ingredient in the I/O infrastructure for HP Integrity NonStop platforms that run the J-series NonStop OS. The commercial (AC-powered) Telco CLIM is available in two models: • CM891R4: supports up to five 1GbE copper ports • CM892R4: supports up to three 1GbE copper and two 1GbE fiber ports In addition, versions of the Telco CLIM are available to meet the telecommunication marketplace requirements: • A carrier-grade version of the Telco CLIM that is DC-powered and Network Equipment-Building System (NEBS) level-3 certified with five 1GbE copper ports* • A carrier-grade version of the Telco CLIM that is DC-powered and NEBS level-3 certified with three 1GbE copper and two 1GbE fiber ports* • A Telco CLIM that is DC-powered with five 1GbE copper ports* • A Telco CLIM that is DC-powered with three 1GbE copper and two 1GbE fiber ports* The Telco CLIM provides support for three protocols: • The protocol MTP level-3 User Adaptation Layer (M3UA) • Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) • Diameter protocol * Future product Data sheet | HP NonStop network I/O adapter, Telco CLIM M3UA enables the Signaling System 7 (SS7) protocol to run over IP. SIP is a signaling protocol that is widely used for setting up and tearing down multimedia communication sessions such as voice and video calls over the Internet. Diameter is an AAA protocol, a type of computer HP Integrity NonStop systems deploy a novel networking protocol for authentication, authorization, and accounting, and is a successor I/O infrastructure found on HP ProLiant to Remote Authentication Dial-In User Service (RADIUS). Diameter controls communication Gen8 servers, specially adapted for between the authenticators and any network entity requesting authentication. HP NonStop platforms as controllers, for high-speed connectivity. The Telco CLIM controllers support multiple high-speed Key features and benefits Ethernet links and the M3UA, SIP, and Diameter protocols. • Provides better Ethernet connectivity • Supports M3UA, Diameter, and SIP protocols • Delivers higher performance • Delivers higher availability – With dual RAID 1 OS boot disks, the Telco CLIM continues to run if one disk fails; the failed disk can be replaced online. • Provides better fault tolerance • Supports NEBS matrix compliance • Provides lower cost per port • Requires no change to applications • Supports ServerNet III connection • Is supported by improved Open System Management (OSM) and HP Systems Insight Manager (SIM) manageability Coexistence and compatibility Telco CLIM can coexist with existing HP Gigabit Ethernet ServerNet Adapter (GESA) Ethernet controllers supporting the TCP protocol. Also, the Telco CLIM can coexist with the IP CLIM and the Storage CLIM. Configuration and packaging The number of Telco CLIMs that can be supported on different NonStop platforms depends on the number of IP and Storage CLIMs on the system, on ServerNet connectivity rules, and on marketing propositions. Consult the respective configuration guide for the platform that you are considering. Compatibility with RVUs The software to support the Telco CLIM on different platforms is available on the relevant Release Version Update (RVU) vehicles of the J-series NonStop OS. Refer to the manual for your targeted platform to determine which RVU supports the Telco CLIM. Performance† Telco CLIMs provide the ability to offload M3UA, SIP, and Diameter protocols processing from NonStop CPUs. The Telco CLIM provides five 1GbE ports to support these three protocols. Moreover, the Ethernet ports on the Telco CLIMs operate faster than prior controllers. • Gigabit Ethernet 4-port ServerNet adapter (G4SA): two 1GbE and two fast Ethernet (100MbE) ports • GESA: one 1GbE port • Fast Ethernet ServerNet adapter (FESA): one fast Ethernet port † Your performance can vary depending on your application, message sizes, and traffic patterns and conditions. 2 Data sheet | HP NonStop network I/O adapter, Telco CLIM Manageability Management of the CLIMs is offered in two forms: • Standard NonStop-centric manageability through OSM • HP SIM OSM provides a highly automated and integrated management command and control that is familiar to users of prior NonStop systems. A newer, broader management capability is also supported by HP SIM. Additionally, you can use SIM to manage other HP systems and NonStop systems with one tool. With OSM or SIM, operators do not need to learn Linux command and control. With OSM and SIM, the NonStop software seamlessly interfaces with the Telco CLIM subsystem, enabling you to manage Telco CLIMs as you have managed other NonStop controllers in prior systems.
