We have already seen unbelievable infrastructure and crowd support this summer during the Sum- mer Grand PriX, and when the snow starts falling, the eXcitement in sure to only increase. I would like to thank everyone involved in the organisation of these Junior World Ski Championships and everyone in te community for their unparalleled support. We are delighted to be your host, and I hope that – alongside the competi- tion – you will have a wonderful time here in Oberwiesenthal. The Junior World Ski Championships in Schonach in 1981 and in Mur- nau in 1982 were the highlight of my years as a junior competitor. Just being here is not always everything. To those of you competing: I hope that you will meet the goals that you set for yourself. I myself know that it doesn’t always work out that way: 16th and 13th place weren’t the top spots I had imagined! But the success of an athlete’s career is not al- ways decided at the junior level – so if not all your dreams come true, stay cool … I wish all participants fair competition, free from injury, during your time here in Oberwiesenthal.
