Eugene Yacht Club Legends of the Lake 2021 Sail School Class List Opti This beginner class will be a pilot program and by invitation for kids ages 7-9. Contact Sail School Director Janelle Skeen ([email protected]) for more information. Zuma Beginner class designed for students ages 10-12 This class starts with two students per boat and will cover terminology, knots, points of sail, and basic boat handling. By the end, students will have the opportunity to solo sail. Laser Intermediate for ages 12 and up Students solo sail, continue to learn the fundamentals, gain confidence and boat handling skills in various situations. Note: All Laser Class students must provide their own ready-to-sail Laser. There will be a mandatory boat check on Sunday afternoon. EYC has a couple of Lasers. Contact Sail School Director Janell Skeen for availability. 420 Intermediate/Advanced for ages 14 and up. New this year! These junior boats are used by high school and collegiate sailing teams across the country. 420s require team work and a desire for fun. Two sailors per boat. Students will build on skills they develop solo sailing and learn to work together to fine tune their skills on their way to becoming established sailors. Catamaran Ages 15 and up—adults encouraged This class is for students with at least four years of experience and covers the unique sailing and rigging tricks of multi-hull boats. Be prepared for fast sailing! Day Sailer This class is is taught in a 17 foot O’Day Day Sailer sloop, usually three per boat. Part of the class is land-learning and part on-the-water. Day Sailers are a great introduction for racing, learning to crew, and maybe even flying a spinnaker. The class’s focus will be on student goals for the week. Women’s Only #1 Our legendary team of women instructors mix fun, land instruction, and sailing basics into a class that seems to always be having a good time. Class is taught in Lido 14s. Women’s Only #2 The success of our Women’s Only class the last few years lets us offer an intermediate level for women who are ready to take the next step into learning to crew on a race boat or do more advanced sailing. Big Boats Find your true north on a big boat! Learn to dock, sail, and crew with confidence. With completion of this class, you could gain the experience to get certified to check out the club’s Hunter 23. Women are welcome and encouraged to sign up for this class. Actual class offerings may vary based on student interest and instructor availability. We want every student to find the best class for his or her level of experience and goals.
