March 29, 2012 Dear Fellow Congregants: For your consideration: These are the finalists chosen by the joint Steering Committee based on the proposals submitted by congregants of Temple Beth Am and Temple Sinai. The name of the new synagogue will be selected at a meeting to be held at Temple Beth Am on April 3, 2012 at 6:30 pm. At that time, those present will vote on their two (2) preferred choices*. The top two (2) vote getters will then be presented to the members present for a second vote. The winner of the run-off vote will be the name of the new synagogue. Lastly, we will decide whether the name will be preceded by “Temple” or “Congregation”. • Beth Sinai (House of Sinai) • Etz Chaim (Tree of Life ) • Kol Ami (Voice of My People) • Shirat HaNefesh (Song of the Soul) • Shir Shalom (Song of Peace) This process has to be completed before the congregations vote to merge because all paperwork submitted to New York State must include the name of the new entity. Once the merger agreement is approved by the congregations, it must be submitted to the state without any changes. Per Article IV, Section 3 of our Constitution and By-Laws, each of the following members in good standing shall be entitled to vote at all congregational meetings: (a) The individual member. (b) In the case of a family unit, husband, wife, elderly parents of same residing in the same household, adult children who are not self-supporting and confirmants shall each be entitled to one vote.
