Ltd. has applied for environmental clearance for obtaining quarrying lease over an area 4.5 Ha. at Khasra No. 68/2, in Village- Shirange, Taluka-Dodamarg, District: Sindhudurg, State: Maharashtra with average production capacity of 3,00,000 Tonnes per year. The major highlights of the project are: The project comes under non agriculture land. Ideally located along Village-Shirange, Taluka-Dodamarg, District: Sindhudurg, State: Maharashtra. The ML area is situated about 2.5 km NW of Village: Khanyale, and can be reached by motorable road. No displacements of settlement are required. The activity is categorized under Schedule – 1 (a), B-2 Category project and is appraised at District level. Project Description Location: The site is located Khasra No. 68/2, in Village- Shirange, Taluka-Dodamarg, District: Sindhudurg, State: Maharashtra. Land: The lease area is undulating hilly terrain. The proposed lease area is on district quarry zone. Some quarries are operating around the lease area. There is no agricultural activity in and near the area. Being the barren land, the vegetation is very spares. Only small bushes and few trees are present in the area. The proponent has applied for a mining lease of 4.50 Ha. Co-ordinate: The coordinates of the plant site are as follows Points Latitude Longitude BP-1 N-15043’07.95” E-74003’58.16” BP-2 N-15043’15.38” E-74004’13.14” BP-3 N-150 43’11.43” E-74004’13.89” BP-4 N-15043’06.01” E-74004’02.43” Water: Water requirement of the project will be met through the tanker. Electric Supply: The estimated power requirement for the project will be 700 KVA. Project Cost: The total cost of the project including all facilities is estimated to be INR 750 Lakhs. Topography: The area under consideration comprises of undulating hilly land with gentle slope. All the topographical features are marked on the Surface Topographical Plan. The area granted under quarry lease is a private land with slight hilly undulating and flat topped topography. It has a mean altitude of 206 above mean sea level. Co-ordinated of the mining lease is latitude 150 43’11”N & Longitude 74004’13”E and fall in Survey of India toposheet No. 48 I/2. Soil Quality: The soil present in the proposed mining lease area is laterite soil embedded with weathered basalt. Further it is observed that the soil cover is not uniform in the area and at places the surface is completely devoide of any soil due to outcropping of compact basalt. Meteorology: The average annual rainfall in the district is 1750 mm. the rainfall generally increases from the west to the east in the district. The rainfall during the period June to September constitutes about90% of the annual total, July being the month with the highest rainfall. The cold weather commences towards the end of November and December is usually the coldest month with maximum temperature at about 280C and the minimum temperature at about 130C. During the southwest monsoon season the humidity is about 70-80% and during the summer season the relative humidity is between 20-25%. The maximum atmospheric pressure is recorded in the winter season. During the monsoon season winds are mostly from directions between southwest and northwest. In the period from October to December the winds are mainly northerly to northwesterly in the mornings and northeasterly to easterly in the afternoons. The sky is heavily clouded to overcast during southwest and southeast monsoon and moderately clouded in post monsoon. During rest of the year the sky is clear or lightly clouded. Water: Water needed for operation requirement shall be drawn from tanker. Sadekar Enviro Engineer Pvt Ltd Page 3 Stone Quarry of M/s Prathyam Ventures Pvt. Ltd. Ecology: The flora and fauna are the integral parts of the ecosystem. Therefore, their studies are most important parts to know the ecological impacts of anthropogenic activities. The Mining Lease area is characterized by presence of lateritic soil and taps basalt and therefore is almost devoid of any vegetation. Only shrubs and bushes are observed in the area. Due to absence of vegetation, presence of fauna in the area is very less. Presence of only common birds like sparrows, crows are observed in the area. Natural fauna like mice, rabbits, lizards etc find during survey. No endangered or rare fauna species is reported in the area. No wildlife Sanctuary or National Park is present in the study area. Socio-economic: Due to mining activity there will be generation of employment for the local people which will increase their earning. Due to this there will be improvement in the living condition of people employed in the area. As mentioned earlier the statutory norms will be followed during the course of mining to ensure the proper health and safety of workers. Apart from this, there is no other factor envisaged during the mining operation though the local population is well settled in the nearby villages, there is a possibility of migration of laborers from the surrounding areas, due to increased revenue earning in the area. There will development of infrastructural facilities due to mining activity. Due to improved earning there will be improvement in the entertainment facilities and marketing. Risk assessment plan Operation of Jack Hammer/LM 100 is a skilled work and if not done properly may result in accident. Overcharging also creates ground vibrations which may lead to displacement of adjoining areas. Dust and noise are also problems commonly encountered during drilling and blasting operations. Further, improper handling and storage of explosives may also results in an accident. However, explosive storage is not envisaged in this project. Measures to avoid accidents due to Drilling & Blasting Operations: Drilling shall be done only by experienced Drill Machine Operator and Blasting shall be done only by a licensed Blaster. Shots shall not be fired except during the hours of day light. Holes charged on a particular day shall be fired on the same day. Care shall be taken to prevent flying of projectiles beyond a distance of 10 m form the place of blasting; Adequate shelters or other protective structures shall be provided to the workers at all times. Sufficient warning by effective signal over the entire area falling within a radius of 500m shall be provided. During the approach and progress of any natural lightening storm either the blasting shall not be done or adequate precaution shall be taken. Measures to avoid accidents due to Loading & Transportation Operations: The loading machines shall be maintained in good conditions and checked thoroughly at least once a week by a competent person to prevent accidents due to mechanical failure. Relevant signs shall be provided at each and every turning point for the guidance of the drivers. To avoid dangers while reversing the machine, provision of sound device to indicate reversing of trucks shall be done. Education and Training of operators shall be taken on regular basis to prevent incidence of such accidents. Conclusion The minor mineral project of stone mining will not have any adverse impact on the environment. Altogether the project will have a positive impact on social environment by providing employment opportunity for the skilled and unskilled labors living in the surrounding villages. Also the infrastructure around the site will be improved due to the project. The project proponent will help in building a green environment by providing plantation around the site. INTRODUCTION OF THE PROJECT 1.1 Identification of the project proponent M/s Prathyam Ventures Pvt. Ltd. has applied for environmental clearance for obtaining quarrying lease over an area 4.5 Ha. at Khasra No. 68/2, in Village- Shirange, Taluka-Dodamarg, District: Sindhudurg, State: Maharashtra with average production capacity of 3,00,000 Tonnes per year. The major highlights of the project are: The project comes under non agriculture land. Ideally located along Village-Shirange, Taluka-Dodamarg, District: Sindhudurg, State: Maharashtra. The ML area is situated about 2.5 km NW of Village: Khanyale, and can be reached by motorable road. No displacements of settlement are required. The activity is categorized. Crushing Activity The mining operation shall consist of removal of morramic soil, weathered basalt wherever present, followed by extraction of the black hard basalt subject to the following conditions being strictly complied with: Top morramic soil if present will be stacked separately and used for plantation, roads, making bunds along the roads etc. Quarrying operation shall be conducted from top to bottom level. Benches of 6 m height and 6 m width will be formed depending upon the digging height of excavator and to facilitate free movement of the trucks on the haul roads. The ultimate pit slope will be maintained at 55 deg. Space will be kept for preparation of haul road and ramps. Sadekar Enviro Engineer Pvt Ltd Page 6 Stone Quarry of M/s Prathyam Ventures Pvt. Ltd. The haul roads shall be provided with safety bund in order to prevent any vehicle going off the road.
