The techniques in here are WELL worth the price!By CustomerThis is a great little handbook because it takes a few of the most common submissions/positions Karel prefers to utilize and elaborates on them heavily so that no matter how the opponent reacts, a submission opportunity presents itself. The techniques don't require strength, speed, or athleticism; rather, they rely on timing and momentum (two key components of Silver Fox's jiujitsu style). I'm currently going through the techniques with an adult BJJ class I teach and there are weeks and weeks worth of material. I've already started utilizing a number of the concepts and they really do make a difference. And for those who don't learn well by looking at still pics, the book comes with a discount code to order the full videos at Digitsu.com (which are excellent and well worth studying!).The fact that Silver Fox is highly regarded by people such as Renzo Gracie, John Danaher, Firas Zahabi, Matt Serra, and Georges St. Pierre speaks volumes in and of itself.2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Many of us need fluid BJJ.By hayabusaAs a BJJ student Mr Pravec's concept is an interesting one with enormous (in MHO) potential to apply in practice. The book limits its potential by being graphically limited. Often times I wished pics angles were a bit more creative and larger to clarify ideas. That is my only reason for giving 4 stars, otherwise I definitely recommend Mr. Pravec's book to help your Jiu Jitsu.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. "Karel is one of my favourite training partners. The insights in his book are excellent to learn many techniques for advanced martial artists."- Georges St. Pierre, 12 time UFC World Champion, one of the greatest MMA fighters of all time BJJ Black BeltThe concept of "fighting" is at the heart of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. We study the art to learn how to win fights. We even refer to matches in our sport competitions as "fights". The methods of learning the art are rugged, and at best transform our bodies into fighting machines. But applying this fight mindset to everyday training can cause us to use methods that destroy training longevity, and ultimately rob us of the ability to practice the art we love. What good is learning to fight like a badass if your body is too broken to put up a fight?Renzo Gracie Black Belt, Karel "Silver Fox" Pravec wants to share his insights as a 23+ year practitioner of, and competitor in the art of Brazilian Jiu- Jitsu. In his first book, Fluid BJJ, Professor Pravec provides concepts, transitions, and drilling sequences that are geared towards practicing the combat art in a way that allows us to exhibit greater levels of mastery and ability as we age. And to ultimately return to the core essence of BJJ: The application and triumph of human intelligence to the problem of fighting.Endorsed by martial arts legends:- Master Renzo Gracie, Grandson of BJJ Founder and Author of Mastering Jiu-Jitsu- Matt Serra, former UFC World Champion Decorated BJJ Black Belt- Georges St. Pierre, 12-time UFC World Champion- Firas Zahabi, Renowned MMA Coach About the AuthorKarel (Silver Fox) Pravec is a 3rd degree Black Belt under legendary Renzo Gracie with over 23 years of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu experience (since 1993). During his training at the world renowned Renzo Gracie Academy, Karel has trained with and studied under some of the highest authorities in the art, including Renzo Gracie, John Danaher, Rodrigo Gracie, Daniel Gracie, Matt Serra, Ricardo Almeida and Shawn Williams. Karel is a highly sought-after instructor who has taught seminars across the United States, Canada, Europe, and Latin America, and has coached BJJ and submission grappling on the national and international level and cornered amateur professional MMA fighters. Karel has studied martial arts, including Tae Kwon Do (3rd degree black belt) for 30 years. In 1993, Karel started taking classes in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in the New York/New Jersey area when they first became available (after attending 2 Gracie seminars in 1991 and 1992). Shortly after, Renzo Gracie, one of the most successful and dynamic practitioners and teachers of the art moved from Brazil to New Jersey to open an academy, and Karel became one of Renzorsquo;s first students. Studying under Renzo Gracie and John Danaher, Karel achieved the prestigious rank of Renzo Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt in July 2006. Although Karel competed infrequently, he demonstrated the success of his style (focus on submissions) by winning: 1st Place ndash; 2006 Tenth Grapplers Quest West (Master Lightweight Division) ndash; all matches won by submission; 1st Place ndash; 2007 NAGA World Championship (Advanced Director ndash; Open Weight) ndash; all matches won by submission, lightest competitor in the division; 2nd Place ndash; 2008 Grapplers Quest U.S. Nationals (Masters ndash; Absolute) ndash; lightest competitor in the division; 3rd Place ndash; 2008 Pan Am Championship No-Gi (Black Belt ndash; ADULTS ndash; Lightweight); 1st Place ndash; 2010 European Championship (Black Belt ndash; Absolute Division ndash; Senior 3) and 2nd place in Lightweight division. Karel continued to compete at the highest level (World Championships - both Gi and No-Gi) in the Adult Absolute divisions into his late 40's. Karel has a Bachelorrsquo;s degree from State University of New York (Albany) and Masterrsquo;s degree from Columbia University. The education and analytical skills have helped Karel continue growing both as a practitioner and teacher of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
