Highways UK Event - Roads For Modern Britain - 7 & 8 November 2018 CECA will be present at this major event which brings together those responsible for the planning, designing, building, maintaining, operating and future-proofing of the UK’s road network. Forthcoming Rail Review The Transport Secretary has announced the Terms of Reference for the forthcoming Rail Review. For more information, click here. Introduction To Rail Events CECA will be holding a series of ‘Introduction To Rail’ events in November, held regionally, with further events being planned for early 2019. These events are aimed at members who are currently not involved in railway work, but will be of assistance to those whose involvement is minimal or growing. Having said that, obviously all CECA members are welcome to attend. We will have locally based client side speakers from Network Rail Route Delivery, a Train Operator, an active Tier 1 contractor and (where appropriate) devolved government. We will also have talks on gaining the right accreditation for working on the railway and how to train staff to work safely in the railway environment. The first three events planned are as follows: • Thursday 15 November - NW England – Preston. This will be free for CECA NW members. It will take place at Preston International Hotel, Marsh Lane, Preston, Lancashire, PR1 2YF and run from 08.30 for 09.00 – 12.30 – interested parties should contact CECA North West Director Guy Lawson: [email protected]. • Tuesday 20 November – Scotland – Cumbernauld This will take place at the Westerwood Hotel, Cumbernauld. This is a free event and if any member wishes to book a place they should contact Glenda Douglas glenda@cecascotland in the first instance. • Friday 30 November – North Wales – Llandudno. Late Payment Consultation CECA is intending to respond to this consultation on late payment, which was launched by the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy this week. Apprenticeships CECA has been working with the Department for Transport to develop a pilot apprenticeship programme based initially in the Midlands, with a focus on groundworks. HSE Inspections During October HSE will be carrying out around 1,000 construction site inspections focusing on health issues, particularly dust and asbestos. As part of this work HSE will be actively promoting the inspection on our social media channels. CECA National Conference 2018 - ‘Our Infrastructure’ You can now view the line-up of speakers at CECA’s national conference ‘Our Infrastructure’, which will take place in Canary Wharf on Tuesday 4 December. The work includes a complete refresh of plant items and should include newer and more relevant items of plant previously not listed.
