All core content courses are subject to Highly Qualified Teacher (HQT) requirements and are associated with one of the core content subject areas including: English, Reading/Language Arts, Mathematics, Sciences, Foreign Languages, Music and Art, Social Studies (history, economics, geography, and civics and government). Five-digit secondary course codes were adopted from the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) common classification system for secondary courses in the United States. Information, including course descriptions, is available in the Secondary School Course Classification System: School Codes for Exchange of Data (SCED), NCES 2007-341. SCED is part of the NCES data handbook series and is published as a searchable electronic database, Handbooks Online Copy and paste this address in your browser: http://nces.ed.gov/pubsearch/pubsinfo.asp?pubid=2007341 or go to http://nces.ed.gov/programs/handbook and search for SCED.
