THE WINE FOUNDRY As we prepare for vintage number six, we remain focused on setting the standard for next generation winemaking by sourcing from legendary vineyards, utilizing the latest tools and pushing for even higher standards. This commitment to quality is our way of assuring your wines rival anything on the planet. In search of unique flavors, we’re proud to introduce new vineyards, varietals and growing regions. In addition to the Pinot Gris on page 20, we’ve inked contracts for Pinot Noir from the Russian River and Sangiovese from Paso Robles, an exciting growing area noted for mouth watering Red Blends and Rhônes. In another Foundry first, we’ve crossed the summit of Mt. Veeder into Sonoma’s Moon Mountain District for our inaugural Cabernet Sauvignon from Sonoma County. Expect additional surprises throughout the next few months. While reviewing, note the television icons, which link to videos providing updates and more information on special winemaking projects. The binocular icon next to “Wines to Try” links to storefronts where you can purchase wine produced from that vineyard. This provides quick access to different interpretations of wines made from these acclaimed fields. Welcome to the 2017 Vintage. THE PROPRIETARY WHITE PROJECT Stick in the mud traditionalists may balk, but Proprietary Blends are of the now; unique takes that push boundaries while highlighting the strengths of individual components. For our Proprietary White, the winemakers co-ferment Chenin Blanc, Gewürztraminer & Riesling completely dry in stainless steel. Lean, light and refreshingly crisp. After the success of the 2015, we’re excited to offer clients another opportunity to remove the shackles of convention and toast to the J freedom of flavor. THE PROPRIETARY RED PROJECT Rules are meant to be broken. Each year, the winemakers pilfer from a special selection of barrels to craft the foundation for our Proprietary Red Blend Project. We cast aside tradition in an attempt to craft the most pleasurable and hedonistic base wine on the planet. You work with the winemakers to shape the aromas, J flavors and textures through blending. THE SUPER TUSCAN PROJECT Inspired by the complexity and depth of Super Tuscans, during the 2016 vintage, the winemakers introduced Bordeaux varietals into Sangiovese with stunning results. Following our inaugural success, we're excited to continue the program. Clients build upon the foundation by having access to Cabernet Sauvignon and J the other Bordeaux varietals when blending. THE ROSÉ PROJECT In year’s past, we remained secretive about our annual Rosé Project because our unique approach made it impossible to determine how barrels would be produced. Toward that end, it remained reserved for those in the know. However, in a Foundry J first, the winemakers are sourcing grapes specifically for a traditional Tavelian method of pressing whole clusters of grapes. By purchasing grapes specifically for the Rosé Project, we can dial in the ideal ripeness level at which to pick for bright aromatics and razor sharp acidity. THE WINEMAKER PROJECTS J THE STAGECOACH PROJECT This study in terroir is the ultimate in luxury wine for the serious collector. Built around Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot from legendary Stagecoach Vineyard, we pull out all the stops, including sending you the actual barrel after your wine is bottled. From grape to glass, you’ll collaborate with your winemaker, and the experience includes a viticultural tour of Stagecoach and lunch at the famous Rutherford Grill. *Only four barrels of the Stagecoach Project are offered each vintage. The packaging included with your barrel is gorgeous: • 20 cases of 750 ml Aleka glass, waxed with a tapered label to match the bottle • 4 cases of 1.5 liter Magnums, waxed J • 3 x 3 liters, waxed and etched inside individual boxes THE ORANGE PROJECT What is Orange wine, you ask? Click the television icon to your left and listen to Patrick and Stu tell you all about it. AVA: Clarksburg, base of Chenin Blanc and either Gewurztraminer or Riesling – J you do a final blend and taste along the way with your winemaker. THE SPARKLING PROJECT / BLANC de BLANCS & BLANC DE NOIRS Following the success of 2013, when these sparkling wines received scores of 93 points and 96 points respectively, we were excited to continue the Sparkling Project. In 2015, we crafted two sparkling wines from Sangiacomo Vineyard using Méthode Champenoise. Both the Blanc de Blancs and Blanc de Noirs were fermented bone dry and we inhibited malolactic conversion to maintain bright acidity. Classic Brut J style. Light, crisp and refreshing. The site is planted to a wide range of varietals and rootstocks and features several distinct microclimates. Our Cabernet Franc is from the most sought after section – Block I. This stretch of vines is lower-yielding than most of the vineyard thus giving explosive aromatics and rich fruit. Stagecoach Vineyard is rich in story, rock and perennial high scoring wines. Structured red fruit and elegance, soft berry layers into refined minerality and light herbaceous notes. Western exposure on the slope provides plenty of ripening afternoon sun, thus delivering the best of both worlds - brawny hillside structure and rich valley floor flavor. Elite vineyard designer & operator, Bill Hill, owns Broken Rock. The fields he has developed are consistently found in the WS Top 100. This field consistently produces extremely concentrated Cabernet Sauvignon with purple-black color and ripe, dark fruit aromatics. The trick is knowing the bloodline. While you may not know the name of the field, you know the wines the fruit has gone into. When the Spring Mountain Cabernet usually reserved for BV’s legendary Georges de Latour quietly became available, we pounced. The vines, which eek out just two tons per acre, cling to the hillside at this steeply terraced property. The nutrient poor soils and high elevation result in wines of extremely concentrated fruit and powerful structure. Archetypical mountain grown characters, with dense black and blue fruit on the nose and palate, backed by bold structure. Majesty in a bottle. Georges de Latour, founder of Beaulieu, purchased the site in 1928 and it became the home to BV’s Rutherford Cabernets made by elite winemaker, Andre Tchelistcheff, throughout the ‘60’s and ‘70’s. The site was then purchased by Beckstoffer Vineyards in 1988.
