PRESS RELEASE Glen Campbell With very special guest Debby Campbell It isn't accurate to call Glen Campbell "pure country," but his smooth fusion of country mannerisms with pop melodies and production techniques made him one of the most popular country musicians of the late '60s and '70s and has helped him sell over 40 million records! Glen is one of the leading figures of country-pop having racked up a steady stream of Top Ten singles, highlighted by classics like "By the Time I Get to Phoenix," "I Wanna Live," "Wichita Lineman," "Galveston," "Rhinestone Cowboy," and "Southern Nights." His smooth vocals and layered arrangements are complimented by steel guitars that bounce off sweeping strings, so that his songs not only became country hits, but they crossed over to the pop charts as well - appropriate, since that is where he began his musical career. Originally a Los Angeles session musician, playing on hits by The Monkees, Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra and Merie Haggard, by the end of the 1960s he had become a successful solo artist. Glen Campbell plays the New Theatre Oxford on Saturday 1st May 2010. Tickets are on sale now, priced from £28.50 - £37.50 and can be purchased from the theatre box office on George Street, by ringing 0844 847 1585 or by visiting our website at www.newtheatreoxford.org.uk (phone and internet bookings subject to booking/transaction fees).
