Visit of Indian Navy Ships to Jakarta

Embassy of India Jakarta PRESS RELEASE Visit of Indian Navy Ships to Jakarta Indian Naval ships ‘Tir’ and ‘Sujata’ together with the sail training ship ‘Sudarshini’ and Indian Coast Guard Ship ‘Sarathi’ are visiting Jakarta from 18-22 October 2017. The four ships comprise the Indian Navy sail training squadron which is on overseas deployment. The senior officer of the 1st Training Squadron, Captain D J Revar, would be embarked on board INS Tir. The ships will be berthed at Tanjung Priok port in Jakarta. The primary aim of the Squadron is to impart sea training to naval and coast guard trainees. All the trainees are trained in seamanship, navigation, ship handling, boat work, and various technical aspects. Vice Admiral A R Karve, AVSM, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Naval Command is also visiting Jakarta during the visit of these ships. He will be meeting senior officers in the Indonesian Navy and the Ministry of Defence. The Southern Naval Command (SNC) is the training command of the Indian Navy, which provides both basic and advanced training to officers and sailors of the Indian Navy. A one day sea sortie and other joint activities have been planned with participation of Indian and Indonesian Navy personnel during the stay of ships in Jakarta. Indian Navy has been providing training to personnel from friendly foreign countries for more than four decades, wherein more than 13,000 personnel from over 40 countries have been trained. The ships are open to public and can be visited on 21 October 2017 from 10 am to 5 pm. Special arrangements can be made for the group visit by students from schools and colleges.
