We have a rich and exciting program planned for the meeting. The broad theme of Diversities: Equality, Inclusion, and Resistance has resulted in a tremendous number of stimulating papers and panels, plenary sessions, workshops, and other activities during our three days together. Please take the time to look through your program (whether you are using a paper copy or the app) and plan your schedule. So much to do, so little time! Although we have a dazzling array of terrific sessions to attend, let me briefly call attention to several highlights from this year’s program. First, there are Christopher G. Ellison three outstanding mini-conferences, focusing on health disparities, SSS President immigration and immigrants in the South, and reproductive inequalities, 2016-2017 respectively. Sessions associated with each mini-conference are clearly marked in the program, and they have been scheduled sequentially, so you can follow the mini-conferences from beginning to end if you so choose. Second, there are addresses by special guests on each day of the conference, including talks by David Williams on race, racism, and health, Pamela Oliver on racial inequities in the criminal justice system, Rogelio Saenz on U.S. immigration policy, Michele Lamont on sociology in the age of Trump, and Louise Cainkar on Islamophobia as a social problem. Third, there will be two special presidential panels devoted to sociological perspectives on the 2016 election cycle, featuring a number of diverse distinguished commentators. We hope you will attend as many of these special events as possible. And as you will see, there is so very much more! We have worked hard to bring you a meeting that is not only intellectually stimulating, diverse, and vibrant, but also fun. The social calendar will be busy! Enjoy the Wednesday evening Welcome Reception and open mic. Enjoy the Graduate Student mixer on Thursday evening, which will include an opportunity to meet and greet candidates for office in the upcoming SSS elections. Several social events dot the calendar at this year’s meeting, including a Health Disparities mini-conference mixer on Wednesday night, a Gender Benders happy hour fundraising event on Thursday evening, and a “Coffee for a Cause” reception and fundraiser on Friday afternoon. Please check your program for the time and location of these events. After the awards ceremony and presidential address, join us for the reception, which features the music of Southtown, all the way from San Antonio. Thank you for the great honor of serving as President of SSS. We hope you enjoy the program constructed by our marvelous co-chairs, Gabriel Acevedo and Terrence Hill, who have done amazing work. Our whole team welcomes you to Greenville –let’s get this meeting started! Chris Ellison 3 PRESIDENTS OF THE SOCIOLOGICAL SOCIETY 1936 E.T. Krueger, Vanderbilt University 1986 Jeffrey K.
