Burnsco 2021 Sunburst National Championships Thursday 7th – Monday 11th January 2021 Notice of Race The Organising Authority is the Pleasant Point Yacht Club South Brighton Park | Beatty Street | Christchurch 8641 Note: The notation ‘[DP]’ in a rule in the Notice of Race means that the penalty for a breach of that rule may, at the discretion of the protest committee, be less than disqualification. 1. Rules 1.1. The will event will be governed by the ‘rules’ as defined in the Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS). 1.2. The Yachting New Zealand Safety Regulations Part 1 shall apply. 1.3. The Sailing Instructions will consist of the instructions in RRS Appendix S, Standard Sailing Instructions, and Supplementary Sailing Instructions that will be on the official notice board located in the Race Office. 1.4. Appendix T, Arbitration, will apply. 2. Advertising 2.1 Boats may be required to display advertising chosen and supplied by the Organising Authority. 3. Eligibility and Entry 3.1. The event is open to all boats of the Sunburst class. 3.2. Late entries. A late entry may be accepted at the Organising Authority’s discretion until Thursday 31 December 2020. 3.4. To be eligible to compete in this event each entrant and crew member shall be a financial member of a club recognised by their national authority. Proof of affiliated club membership is to be submitted with the entry or presented at the time of registration. 4. Fees 4.1. The entry fee is $135.00. 4.2. The late entry fee is $150.00. 4.3. Evening meal and social event on Saturday 9 January: $25pp ($15 pp under 12). 5. Schedule 5.1. Registration Thursday 7th January 2021 1600hr - 1800hr PPYC Friday 8th January 2021 0800hr - 1000hr PPYC 5.2. Measurement Thursday 7th January 2021 1600hr - 1800hr PPYC Friday 8th January 2021 0800hr - 1000hr PPYC 5.3 Dates of Racing Friday 8th January Invitation Race 1st Warning Signal: 1255hr Saturday 9th January Race Day 1 1st Warning Signal: 1315 hr 3 Races Sunday 10th January Race Day 2 1st Warning Signal: 1410hr 3 Races Monday 11th January Race Day 3 1st Warning Signal: 1510hr 2 Races 5.4. Briefing Briefings are scheduled for 1145hr on Friday 8th and Saturday 9th January 2021 at the PPYC Race Office. 5.5. Number of Races (a) i. 8 Races are scheduled for the series. ii. The above applies to the Championship and Taihoa (non-spinnaker) fleets. (b) Up to 4 races may be sailed per day. Burnsco 2021 Sunburst National Championships NOR Approved 2 (c) The target time for each race will be 45 minutes for the leading boat. (d) On Monday 11th January no warning signal will be made after 1710hrs. 5.6 Evening Meal and Social Event Saturday 9th January following the completion of racing. Time TBA. 6. Measurement 6.1 Each boat shall have a valid measurement certificate and shall display a current registration sticker on its transom. 6.2 All sails shall have been previously measured and stamped by a Sunburst Class Measurer. 6.3 Each competitor shall present their hull for weighing in dry condition with the rudder stock removed. 6.4 There shall be only one set of sails, spars and foils used by each boat. These shall be presented and endorsed at Measurement. (refer NOR 5.2 above). Any changes must be requested and approved by the Race Officer in writing. 6.5 Each boat shall complete a measurement/safety checklist during the measurement process. See Attachment B. Entrants are encouraged to undertake this process on Thursday 7th January due to the tight time constraints on Friday 8th January. (refer NOR 5.2 above). 6.6 There will be no sail, boat or foil measurement at the event unless previously arranged with a Sunburst Class Measurer. 6.2 All beach trailers/trolleys must have boat names and sail numbers clearly marked on them. 6.3 Safety and measurement checks may be made on any boat at any time during the event. 7. Sailing Instructions 7.1. Printed Sailing Instructions will not be made available. The Supplementary Sailing Instructions will be emailed to competitors by 0900 on Monday 4th January 2021 and a copy will also be posted on the Official Notice Board. 8. Venue 8.1. Attachment A shows the location of the regatta venue and the racing area. 8.2. The racing area is on the waters of the Avon Heathcote Estuary directly adjacent to the Pleasant Point Yacht Club. 9. Courses to be Sailed 9.1. The courses to be sailed will be triangular courses including windward, reaching and leeward marks. 10. Penalty System 10.1. Rule 44.1 and 44.2 are changed so that the ‘Two-Turns’ penalty is replaced by the ‘One-Turn’ Penalty. 11. Scoring 11.1. 5 races are required to be completed to constitute a series. 11.2. When fewer than 6 races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores. 11.3. When 6 or more races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her worst score. 12. Launching 12.1 Unless otherwise directed by the Organising Authority, all competing boats and equipment shall be launched and retrieved from either PPYC ramp. 13. Coaching and Support Boats Burnsco 2021 Sunburst National Championships NOR Approved 3 13.1. Support boats are allowed. 14. Radio Communication 14.1 Except in an emergency, a boat that is racing shall not make voice or data transmissions and shall not receive voice or data communication that is not available to all boats. This restriction also applies to mobile telephones. [DP]. 15. Prizes 15.1 Prizes will be awarded as follows: Sunburst • Wilson & Horton Cup (Line Honours) • Brooke Trophy (2nd line) • Maurice Scott & Life Members’ Trophy (3rd Line) • Wakatere Trophy (1st Handicap) • Colin & Peter Kettlewell Cup (1st Helm & Crew under 19 years of age at 1 January 2021) • National Youth Championship Mixed Double Handed Trophy (Helm & Crew under 19 years of age at 1 January 2021) • NZ Sunburst Association Trophy – Secondary Schools Trophy (1st Helm & Crew both pupils from the same school for the 2020 year) • Muritai One Ton Cup (Highest placed crew with a combined age of 100 years or more). • Invitation Race Trophy – John Brooke painting • Tony Bouzaid Trophy 15.2 Other prizes may be awarded at the discretion of the Organising Authority. 16. Insurance 16.1 It is highly recommended that each participating boat shall be insured with valid marine third-party liability insurance to a minimum of $1,000,000. 17. Disclaimer of Liability 17.1 Competitors participate in all races entirely at their own risk. See RRS 4, Decision to Race. The Organising Authority will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury, or death sustained in conjunction with, prior to, during, or after the race. 18.
