He also teaches Intro to Business and Personal Finance for the school, and he serves as an assistant on the boys’ basketball team. Originally from St. Louis, he graduated from Lindbergh High School and then attended the University of Missouri. He played for Coach Norm Stewart from 1970-1974, and he was a member of the first MU basketball teams to win 20 or more games in a season in two consecutive years. th After college, Gary was the 99 player selected in the NBA draft. He was being chosen by the Buffalo Braves, and that team is known today as the Los Angeles Clippers. Note: The first player selected in that year’s draft was a 6-11 center from UCLA named Bill Walton. Gary’s family owned a construction business, and he chose to stay and work with his family rather than going to Buffalo. He worked in that business for 26 years. After his father died, the family sold the business. Gary next worked for the University of Missouri in various roles. He worked for the Tiger Scholarship Fund, he was the special assistant to the Athletic Director, and he served as Mizzou basketball games analyst from 1996-2017. Gary shared stories from his time playing for legendary MU Coach Norm Stewart. He spoke about playing in Brewer Fieldhouse where the team always kept a hammer on the bench to nail down loose boards on the court. He also confirmed the well-known adage that Coach Stewart never spen t a dime in the state of Kansas during his tenure. When asked, he shared that his top five MU men’s basketball players of all time were Derrick Chievous, Steve Stipanovich, Jon Sunvold, John Brown and Anthony Peeler.
