SCISA has made a COVID related change to format of the 2021 Sate Baseball Playoffs. Not all regions will complete region play this season. At different times during the season, schools have been on COVID quarantine protocols. The format will include: Expanding the playoffs from 8 teams to 10 teams. The first two weeks will consist of a double elimination tournament format. The State Championship series will be a “Best-of-Three” Game Series. The Championship Series will have the Upper Bracket Champion playing Lower Bracket Champion (Home/Away/Neutral). The double elimination format does not place any undue disadvantage to any team, regardless of the seed. The double elimination format actually provides a path requiring less strain on a pitching staff to advance to the championship series. The “higher” seed will host / be the home team. Admission: Adults: $10 / Students: $5 Game Time: Both schools can mutually agree to a game time. Schools are asked to consider drive time and exam schedules. Otherwise, the home team can declare an afternoon game at 5:00 or a night game at 6:00. Home Team shall contact the visiting team to provide direc- tions and game information. Speed-up Rules: All Speed-up Rules are in effect, including 15 and 10-Run Rule. Pitch Count Pitch Count Rule is in effect. Weather Issues In case of rain, the game will be played the next playable day. Note that the next round of the play-offs will not be pushed back due to one rain-out. If a game is stopped due to weather conditions a suspended game shall be declared. The contest will be resumed from the point it was suspended. Example: Monday game is rained out. The Monday game will be played on Tuesday & the Tuesday game will be played Wednesday. Example #2: The Thursday game is rained out on Thursday and is played on Friday. The next series will start as scheduled, on Monday (even if the game was pushed until Saturday). Baseball Play-offs. The 15-Run Rule or 10-Run Rule will be in effect. Otherwise, a game must be played the full 7 innings (6 1/2 if the home team is leading). Home Teams shall file a Financial Statement for each Home Game, all rounds. SPORTSMANSHIP: Coaches are reminded to make sure that “chatter” from their team bench is positive and supporting their team not taunting the other team. Designated Reps should introduce themselves to each other and be proactive during the game. Please, please remind your players to exhibit good sportsmanship regardless of what an opponent may say or do. Allow the umpires to take care of illegal play or unsportsmanlike conduct. A DQ will result in the next game suspension unless there is a successful appeal which takes conclusive video evidence so let us not need to do that! Home Team Determination Correction/Clarification • The “Higher” Seeds have served as the Home Team for games 1-4. The Athletic Committee acknowledges that the seeding of teams who do not play during the season is not an exact science. The playing and winning of games must have meaning, therefore in the event that: - the #5 seed defeated the #4 seed in game #1 and play each other again in Game #5 and/or - the #3 seed defeated the #2 seed in game #2 and play each other again in Game #7 - then the #5 Seed will host Game #5 and/or the #3 Seed will host Game #7 • “If Game” site determination was not noted on original document - if this game is necessary, then the deciding game will be played at the winner of Game #8.
