1 INSERT NEW BATTERIES Push to open Batteries compartment door AA Batteries Name That Tune requires 4 “AA” batteries. To insert the batteries, remove the battery compartment cover on the back of the unit by pushing the two finger tabs toward the top of the game and lifting the cover off. Insert 4 x 1.5V “AA”/”UM-3”/”LR6” batteries or equivalent (not included) making sure to align “+” and “-“ as shown. Tiger recommends Duracell batteries. If you choose “Melody Countdown” HOW TO PLAY you will only play this game. Please read the following brief descriptions of the games to decide which game to choose. GAME PLAY OVERVIEW ROUND 1: MELODY ROULETTE OBJECT: Players compete to name the tune the quickest. The dollar amounts to win are randomized. GAME PLAY: The game will begin to play 15 notes from a song. As soon as a player recognizes the song he presses either the PLAYER 1 or PLAYER 2 buttons to “buzz in”. He then has to type the name of the song onto the screen. If the name is correct, then the player wins the dollar amount shown on the screen, if not the amount is deducted from his score. 5 ROUND 2: GUESS A TUNE OBJECT: Be the first player to Name That Tune in the fewest notes. GAME PLAY: The game starts out by playing three notes of a song. The unit will wait five (5) seconds and if neither player can guess the song then the unit will play the song again, but will add three (3) additional notes. The unit will continue to add three notes to the tune until someone guesses it correctly. The first player to “buzz in” and guess the song correctly will win the $$$. The dollar amount depends on how many notes it takes to guess the song. (The fewer the notes, the higher the winnings.) ROUND 3: MELODY COUNTDOWN OBJECT: Out wager your opponent and Name That Tune in the fewest notes. GAME PLAY: Players are given a clue to the name of the song and then compete against each other and wager who can name the tune in the fewest notes. Each player has two chances to bid, then the unit will play the song so the player with the lowest wager will have to guess. A player can stop the negotiation by hitting “ENTER” HOW TO PLAY after the number has been agreed to. In “NAME THAT TUNE” players play all 3 rounds. In “MELODY COUNTDOWN” players only play “Melody Countdown” In both cases a game consists of 10 songs. 6 TO CHOOSE A GAME To choose either “Name That Tune” or “Melody Countdown” press the SELECT button until the desired game is flashing and then press ENTER. HOW TO PLAY • SELECT NUMBER OF PLAYERS Once the game is selected, the unit will ask for number of players. Press either PLAYER 1 (to play against the computer) or PLAYER 2 (to play against an opponent). 7 • RULES OF THE GAMES ROUND 1: MELODY ROULETTE OBJECT: Players compete to name the tune the quickest. The dollar amounts to win are randomized. GAME PLAY: • Players are prompted to “HIT SONG BUTTON” • The game will then randomly display a dollar amount. If the “DOUBLE” is shown the dollar amount is doubled for the song HOW TO PLAY 8 • The game will begin to play 15 notes from a song. As soon as a player recognizes the song or within 15 seconds of the playing of the last note, the player must press either the PLAYER 1 or PLAYER 2 buttons to “buzz in”. The player then has to 40 seconds to type the name of the HOW TO PLAY song onto the screen. Once the name is typed in, the player presses ENTER. • If the name is correct, then the player wins the dollar amount shown on the screen. The game will then display the name of the song and play all 15 notes. • If the name is not correct OR the player does not type the name in within the 40 seconds, the amount is deducted from the player's score. • If the first player to buzz in does not correctly name the song then the song is repeated and the second player has 5 seconds to buzz in to name the song. • If neither player correctly names the song then the unit will display the name of the song and play it. • After the song is identified, the game will display the current score for both players. • To move to the next song press the SONG button • There are 3 songs in this round. After the third song is played, the game will show ROUND COMPLETED and the current score. 9 GAME TIPS: • The name of the song MUST be typed correctly. Therefore refer to Appendix 1 which lists the complete titles and correct spellings for all songs. Note: No punctuation marks are needed when typing in correct song title. • At any time during the initial playing of the song and up to 15 seconds after the last note is played, players may press REPEAT to re-play the song. Note that the timer DOES NOT STOP during REPEAT. Players may press REPEAT after any number of notes are played. • After the song answer is shown, players may also press REPEAT to hear the song played again. • If neither player knows the song, they may press the ENTER button to “skip” that song. The game will then display the name of the song and play it through. Players may only skip a song while it is playing. Once it is finished playing players will have to wait 15 second for the answer. Players may only skip one song in the round. HOW TO PLAY 10 ROUND 2: GUESS A TUNE OBJECT: Be the first player to Name That Tune in the fewest notes. HOW TO PLAY GAME PLAY: • Players are prompted to hit the SONG button • The game starts out by playing three notes of a song. Players use this clue to help determine how many notes they will need to name the song. • On the LCD screen, the number 15 will appear and this is how many notes the player will have in which to name the song. The player will use the arrow buttons to increase or decrease the number of notes. The negotiating will start at 15 and the player uses the arrow button to determine how many notes the player wants to wager. Once the players decide, a player hits “ENTER” to confirm the choice. 13 • Now the other player or computer has a chance to negotiate using the same procedure just described.
