SUMMER 2016 CAPE COD, MASSACHUSETTS freedom TO HAVE A ACTIVITIESGREAT TIME GUIDE Club Member News Summer 2015 2 3 3 History Samuel Mayo Nickerson and his wife Matilda built their Brewster summer residence on a bluff overlooking Cape Cod Bay in 1890. It included Fieldstone Hall, a carriage house, a 9-hole golf course, a stone tower used to generate electricity and private game preserve. The estate was occupied by their son Roland and his wife Addie. Socially and politically prominent, the Nickersons entertained frequently and lavishly. It was not uncommon for the social event of the year to be held at Fieldstone Hall. In 1906, Fieldstone Hall burned to the ground. Construction began a year later and the new Mansion was completed in 1912. It closely resembled an English country manor with an eclectic blend of Renaissance Revival and Gothic themes. One of the Mansion‘s most striking features is the intricately carved oak staircase leading to the second floor. In 1945, the Nickerson Mansion was sold to the La Salette religious order where it served as a seminary and college for men. In 1979, Corcoran Jennison purchased the Mansion, Carriage House and the 52- acre parcel to eventually develop what Resort Guests and Club Members now know as Ocean Edge Resort & Golf Club. Today, the Mansion and Carriage House have been enhanced to befit their historic character; including period furnishings and appropriate finishes to newly restored wood. There is 21,000 square feet of function space throughout the resort, Cape Cod’s only Nicklaus Design Golf Course, three exquisite restaurants, 338 guest rooms, eleven tennis courts, private beach, and five pools. Shark Bah will remain open until 9:00pm serving pool side food and drinks. Movie will begin at sunset. Capture the Flag: Participants will be split into two teams and will race to see who can capture the other team’s flag first. But be careful, you don’t want to end up in jail! Craft Days: Come and make some fun crafts to remember your stay at Ocean Edge. Be prepared for crafts that include cutting, gluing and painting. $5 per craft. *Members: First craft is complimentary with valid member card; thereafter will be $5 per craft Family Basketball: Compete against other teams and individuals in games of H-O-R-S-E and challenge shots. Family B-I-N-G-O: Join us at Shark Bah located at the Arbor Pool for some BINGO fun. $2 per card and the winner walks away with half the pot! Family Field Day: It’s a beautiful day for some good old fashion fun on The Mansion Front Lawn. We will have a variety of lawn games and relay races for your family’s enjoyment! Family Kite Making: Spend your Monday morning flying a kite! Grab your family and head to The Mansion Front Lawn to assemble, decorate and fly your very own kite! $10 per kite. Kids Night Out: Enjoy a dinner out while we entertain and feed the kids at the EdgeVenture Clubhouse. Program is designed for children ages 4 to 9 years, with age appropriate activities, movies and Xbox Kinect. For staffing reasons, reservations must be made by 7:00pm on the previous day. Popcorn is available for the kids; snacks and a bar for the adults. Blankets for seating will be provided, but feel free to bring your own chairs. Friday Fun Night: Let your kids enjoy an obstacle course, designed by our golf pros on our putting green, while you enjoy a cocktail at Linx Tavern. Snacks and soft drinks are provided. 6:00pm – 7:30pm. $10 per child for Members and $15 for Resort or Sponsored Guests. S’mores Family Beach Fire: Every Thursday night from 8:00pm-10:00pm, kick off your shoes, take in the sunset and make some friends and s’mores! Ocean Edge Shuttle will drop off at the Bay Pines Beach Path. Splashtastic Games: Join us at Fletcher Pool for splashtastic activities including cannonball contest, pool kick board relay races, inner-tube water polo and other fun pool games! Toddler Games: Assorted lawn games especially created for your toddlers on The Mansion Front Lawn. Weekly Scavenger Hunt: Join us for our week-long scavenger hunt! Take pictures with your family performing the tasks given throughout your stay and upload them onto social media pages! The family with the highest score at the end of the week will receive a prize! Croquet: Ocean Edge has a regulation croquet court located on the Mansion Front Lawn. Croquet will be set up to use at your leisure. Beach Walk & Oyster Tour: The Brewster Flats are famous for their numerous tide pools and oyster beds. Explore them during our weekly beach walks. Please bring sunscreen and dress accordingly as you will be walking through ankle deep water. Beach shoes or sandals are highly recommended. Weekly times change with the low tide schedule.
