Schulz Museum about impact of Woodstock music festival Mickey and Caryl Hart, along with author Dennis McNally will discuss the Woodstock Music Festival 50 years later. SANTA ROSA, Calif. July 22, 2019—On Saturday, August 3, the Charles M. Schulz Museum and Research Center welcomes the Grateful Dead’s Mickey Hart, California Coastal Commissioner and former Regional Parks Director Caryl Hart, and historian Dennis McNally for “50 Years of Evolving Consciousness,” a conversation reflecting on the legendary Woodstock music festival five decades later. The event is held in conjunction with the Museum’s current exhibition, Peace, Love, and Woodstock. The idea to invite the Harts to speak at the Museum was suggested by Jean Schulz, widow of Charles M. Schulz and President of the Museum’s Board of Directors. “Caryl and I became friends due to a mutual interest in the environment and her work to expand regional parks and open space in Sonoma County. At the same time, Mickey was traveling around the world researching for his world music album Planet Drum,” Jean Schulz said. “I think they offer a valuable perspective on the issues explored by the Woodstock generation, such as caring for the land and each other, and how these resonate today, both locally and globally.” Joining the conversation is Dennis McNally, author of A Long Strange Trip: The Inside History of the Grateful Dead, who will share his insights on the musical and cultural impact of the Woodstock festival. Advance tickets are required: $25 per person ($20 for members); limited to 4 tickets per person. Available online at schulzmuseum.org or by calling (707) 284-1265. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. On view through March 8, 2020, Peace, Love, and Woodstock offers an in-depth look at the smallest Peanuts character, Woodstock, named for the 1969 music festival. In celebration of the exhibition and the 50th anniversary of Woodstock, the Schulz Museum will also host a Summer of Woodstock Free Day on Sunday, August 25, from 10:00 am–5:00 pm, with complimentary admission, live music, and art activities for kids.
