T.P.Murphy Resume 2020 Timothy Patrick Murphy, M.Eng., P.Eng., FEC Tim is the President and Senior Geotechnical Engineer for T.P.Murphy Engineering Inc. Tim has comprehensive experience in all aspects of geotechnical/materials engineering, gained over 35 years of practice. This experience includes site subsurface assessments for a wide range of environmental and civil projects as well as foundation design. His work has included analysis of problem soil conditions, such as slope stability analyses or de-watering. He is experienced in the assessment, repair and quality control of concrete and asphalt. He has worked extensively with geosynthetics. He has provided geotechnical input into a wide range of infrastructure projects including airports, highway and road construction, bridges, marine structures and water and waste water infrastructure. Tim also has over twenty years experience in the many aspects of landfill construction, including project management, design and quality control of construction. He has been responsible for design of waste disposal sites and facilities, including site selection studies, environmental impact assessments, and site assessments. A specialty is the design of barrier systems for landfills and lagoons. As a project manager he has experience in leading multi-discipline teams on a wide variety of projects. He has also acted as Owner’s Engineer for construction projects providing contract administration and supervision of construction. (2019) • Geotechnical investigation for proposed St. Francis Xavier University Health Innovation Centre (2018) • Geotechnical investigation to investigate the settlement of foundations at an industrial site. It was planned to install new machinery on the second floor which would impose additional loads on a distressed column, including dynamic loads. Also, tanks would be installed on the first floor of the building which displayed extensive cracking, imposing additional loads on the distressed foundations. The investigation determined the cause of the foundation distress and facilitated design of remediation measures to allow the project to be completed. The purpose of the investigation was to assess the subsurface soil conditions for the installation of water and sewerage infrastructure, and the replacement of sidewalk, curb and gutter and road surface. (2003) • Expansion of the Weldon Law Building, Studley Campus, Dalhousie University, Halifax, Nova Scotia. Project Manager for the geotechnical investigation and topographic survey completed for the proposed expansion of the Weldon Law Building. This project included a topographic survey of the existing building and surrounding area and a geotechnical investigation to describe the sub-surface conditions and provide recommendations to assist in design and construction. • Proposed Extension, Melville Health Centre, Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Newfoundland Labrador. Project Engineer for the subsurface geotechnical investigation for the proposed extension to the Melville Health Centre located in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Newfoundland Labrador. The purpose of the investigation was to obtain information for foundation design of the proposed new hospital extension. • Proposed Sydney Health Park Building, Sydney, Nova Scotia. Project Engineer for the subsurface geotechnical investigation for the proposed new health park building located beside the existing Cape Breton Regional Healthcare Complex. The purpose of the investigation was to determine the foundation conditions at the site, including bearing capacity of the in-situ soils and bedrock, the location of the groundwater table and to assess the suitability of the native soils for reuse as fill. • New Trades Building, Marconi Campus, Nova Scotia Community College, Sydney, Nova Scotia. Project Engineer for the geotechnical investigation for the proposed Trades Building located on the Marconi Campus. The investigation provided subsurface conditions at the site and recommendations for construction. • Africville Interpretive Centre, Seaview Park, Halifax, Nova Scotia. Project Manager for the geotechnical investigation completed at the site for the proposed Africville Interpretive Center, which included the construction of a replica of the church formerly located on the site. The investigation provided subsurface conditions at the site, with foundation design parameters and recommendations for site development. • New Kentville Group Home, Kentville, Nova Scotia. Project Manager for the geotechnical investigation for the proposed construction of a new group home on Exhibition Street in Kentville, Nova Scotia.
