We have put the word out to local breweriana collectors and should have a good turn out from them. The convention schedule is simple with Wednesday to Saturday we will set up in the Hospitality/Meeting room. Local sightseeing will be up to individuals and Pat has written a brief summary of the better sights to see in Spouse’s Corner. The only event planned outside of the Saturday Public Show (8AM to 1PM) is a short auction for Friday afternoon (4PM to 5PM). The airport shuttle costs $40 for the first person and $6 each additional person (not $22 as stated in the last issue). The word is out to the local beer collectors from Washington and Ore- gon and we should have several in attendance and dropping by. Seattle will be a very exciting city to visit so BE THERE!!! This is a celebration for 40 years of JFO Conventions. ——————————–——-————-- Members Update —————–——-————————— Mike St. Amand passed away in August after a short illness. Theresa and he had been visiting family a few weeks before in Vancouver, B. C. when he told her he was not feeling well and she got him home to Mid- land, and he passed away after a few days in the hospital. They were JFO convention regulars starting at Nashville in 2006 and were always the life of the party. Mike had a passing interest in openers but just like the camaraderie of our group. As one JFO member said, “I did not know Mike well but he always had a beer in hand and a smile on his face”. Our condolences to Theresa and the St. Amand family. More on Mike on the next page. A really great person to be around. We also lost a couple of former members the past year including Janet Goss (Wyoming collector) and Na- talie Blakeman (Nevada collector). Janet was always looking for hard to find western openers and espe- cially ones from Wyoming. Natalie was a general antiques collectors and would ask if I had any Reno, Ne- vada openers. Condolences to their families. JUST FOR OPENERS OCT 2017 - JAN 2018 ISSUE #146 PAGE 2 Mike St. Amand (August 23, 2017) Mike and Theresa first appeared at the 2006 Nashville JFO Convention. Being Canadians Pat loved them from day one. A great fun loving couple who quickly became part of the JFO family. They attended every JFO Convention from 2006 through 2016. In 2008 they got their best friends John and Mary Lynn to start attending. Four happy Canadians is just what JFO needed. Mike was not a serious opener collector but love buying the low-end deals. At his last convention he bought a huge bag of plastic openers for $50.00 (about 200 in the bag). In 2012 his daughter, Mechelle, joined us in Las Vegas. Mike definitely passed his fun- loving spirit down to her. Mike and Theresa did not attend JFO this past year in Chapel Hill as they basically had a large St. Amand reunion planned last summer in Vancouver, B. C. Mike’s siblings from as far away as Australia were coming in for a multi-week get together along with his children. Unfortunately towards the end of the family vacation he told Theresa he was not feeling well and she managed to get him back home to Midland, Ontario. Once home he was hospitalized for a few days before passing away. Oh Canada lost a great man. Thanks Mike for a lot of great Convention memories. Above: Theresa and Mike at 2006 Nashville Convention.
