Clara, a young Orchestra Orchestra of the girl, creeps downstairs on Christmas Eve to play with her favourite Royal Opera House present – a Nutcracker. But a mysterious magician, Drosselmeyer, is Conductor Koen Kessels waiting to sweep her off on a magical adventure. Stage Director Peter Wright Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker score was commissioned by the director of the Russian Imperial Theatres, following the resounding success of The Herr Drosselmeyer Gary Avis Sleeping Beauty in 1890. Marius Petipa created the scenario, which Clara Iohna Loots is based on a fairytale by E.T.A. Hoffmann, and Lev Ivanov provided Hans-Peter/The Nutcracker Ricardo Cervera the choreography. The Nutcracker was first performed in 1892 at the Dr Stahlbaum Christopher Saunders Mariinsky Theatre in St Petersburg. It initially had a poor reception, but Mrs Stahlbaum Elizabeth McGorian its combination of enchanting choreography and unforgettable music Fritz Thomas Bedford has since made it one of the best-loved of all ballets.
