A year later than we hoped, and in a slightly revised three day format that harks back to the race’s past. But with a parcours that will give the best riders the chance to impose themselves and add their names to an illustrious roll of jersey winners. The last eighteen months has affected all of us – and the shadow of the pandemic lingers over the race with changes to the format and procedures. Please follow them – and in the process, protect yourself and everyone else. Saturday’s individual TT returns to the classic start location just outside Brynmawr – so this year’s riders can compare their times directly against everyone from Millar and Martin to 2015 record breaker Joey Walker. The big additions to the 2019 race are back: The fantastic closed circuit at Pembrey Country Park, now with an extra five dlaps. An Sunday afternoon’s picturesque, exciting and very fast run from Pembrey to the village of Nantgaredig. Monday’s final stage again heads south east, almost into England – passing the historic and beautiful Tintern Abbey, before skirting the Forest of Dean and heading back up to the finale on the Tumble where only the strongest prevail. Huge thanks go to SD Sealants and OX 4 Sound, our long‐term supporters – and to Blaenau Gwent, Carmarthenshire and Monmouthshire County Councils for helping us put the race on. A massive thank you too to our friends at Cwmtillery Glass Centre, stepping up to sponsor the King of the Mountains jersey this year. A huge welcome too to cycling management agency 258 Protégé, presenting the Combativity Award – a huge marker of the race’s importance as a proving ground for future stars. UCI agent Jamie Barlow has already guided a number of very well‐ known Junior Tour graduates through the formative years of their pro careers. Be in no doubt, you are being watched by those who know talent when they see it, and have the skills and experience to nurture it. An event as big as the Junior Tour couldn’t take place without the combined efforts of over 60 volunteers making the race happen. You’ll see some of them, but others do so much hard work in the background you’ll hardly notice them. A huge thank you to everyone, not least: The Cycling Clubs and Officials Without the help of a team of dedicated volunteers, from Wales and well beyond, this event could not happen. They have given up several days of their free time to make it so. Thank you to everyone involved. National Escort Group Wales and C.S.A.S. Marshals We are very lucky in Wales to have brilliant race accredited motorcycle escort and static marshal teams. Their professionalism and enthusiasm help ensure the success of the event. Riders, managers and helpers, please follow their directions at all times and do everything you can to help them do their jobs. Welsh Cycling and British Cycling To all the support staff who will be helping this weekend’s event run like clockwork – and to the Commissaire team and the other race officials, a huge thank you. The support services As anyone who has organised an event knows, support from external agencies is essential for an event to run safely and smoothly. Our thanks go to the following: Gwent, South Wales and Dyfed Powys Police Blaenau Gwent, Carmarthenshire and Monmouthshire County Borough Councils and Highway Authorities The Race Founder The event exists because John Richards had a vision for an international junior stage race in Wales, and put together the first Gwent Two Day in 1981. The rest is history. Whether you are riding, managing, supporting, or helping make the race happen, enjoy! And may the best rider win. 3 SD Sealants Junior Tour of Wales 2021 Thank you to our Sponsors and Partners SD Sealants Nick Jones sdsealants.co.uk Cwmtillery Glass Centre Paul Hayward cwmtilleryglass.co.uk 258 Protégé Jamie Barlow 258protegesportsmgt.com OX 4 Sound Paul Quarterman Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council / Cllr Wayne Hodgins Brynmawr Business Forum Donna Wallbank, Gareth Howells Carmarthenshire County Council Ian Jones, Neil Thomas Monmouthshire County Council Ian Saunders, Nick John, Neil Rosser Therapi Tylino – official physio and kinesiotherapist Roger Daniels MCThA, MCNHC, ITEC(DIP) Harcourt Colour Print Ian Harcourt, Tudor Thomas, Sam Fender JP Signs & Print Emma & John Morgan St John Ambulance – Abergavenny Wayne Stringfellow #JTWHistory A few weeks ago, this section might only have mentioned one man.
