WESTCOAST – Lake Como The best way to move on the West coast is by using the bus and the ferry. With the bus you can go from Como to Colico (south to North) and in Menaggio you can change to Lugano. The best ferry connections take place in Menaggio, sailing to Varenna and Bellagio. Also frequent sailings start from the town of Cadenabbia. Lenno is also very well connected. You can visit the whole lake with the ferryboat .. and with the passenger-boat. If you need a speedy ferry connection, then take the hydrofoil! You can use the train station in Varenna if you cross the lake and exit from the ferry in Varenna, the train-station is close to the ferry port. You can take the famous Bernina Train to St. Moritz there, the highest train in Europe connecting Tirana and St. Mortiz. It goes up to 2243 m high ! Also you can take the train to Milano from Varenna. TRAVEL TO MILANO FROM THE WEST COAST : In reality the best way from the West Coast to go to Milano, is to take the hydrofoil or bus to Como Stazione del Lago. From this station you can take the train straight into Milano – Cadorna Station which is already in the centre of Milano. So one boat or one bus and a train get you in the centre of Milano, no tubes or metro's needed. Even better would be to drive your car to Como and park close to the 'stazione del Lago' as you do not have the problem of the last bus to Menaggio leaving at about 1900h. EASTCOAST: If you stay on the East coast, you have a VERY good train connection to Lecco, Milano and St. Moritz. The train stops in Varenna, Fiumelatte, Lierna, Mandello and Bellano .. amongst other stops. Also from Varenna you can take the hydrofoil or passenger or car ferries to all other villages on the lake.
