In the Name of God Congress Directory The 6th Iranian Petroleum & Energy Club Congress IPEC 2021 26- 28 January 2021 Message from the Head of the 6th Congress Policy Council Last year, we noted that recent developments in international markets (resulting from the production of oil and gas from unconventional structures, especially Shale), as well as trade practices inconsistent with international laws and procedures, and the rapid development of renewable energy equipment, pose serious threats against traditional markets and organizations such as APEC. Competition within OPEC is expected to intensify in the coming years, and having excess production capacity will become vital for its core members, including Iran, and the issue of production sooner or later from oil and gas resources will be of particular importance. It is important to note that the sharp decline in Iran’s oil production and sales has political consequences, such as a decline in bargaining power in international relations, a decline in the pricing power of OPEC production, and severe inflation and shocks in the domestic economy. Reclaiming the lost market, returning the money from the sale of previous products, reviving the power of production, acquiring new technologies, etc., are each a challenge facing the experts and stakeholders of the country’s oil and energy, and require careful consideration of methods and consequences. Accordingly, the perspective of investment, production, consumption and market of Iranian oil and energy has been selected as the main axis or theme of the 6th session of the Oil and Energy Congress (IPEC 2021). In recent years, and specifically in the last two years, with the escalation of sanctions and the unilateral withdrawal of the United States from the UN Security Council, and most recently the epidemic of the Corona virus, we are facing new conditions in the fields of oil and energy which can sometimes change decision priorities. For example, focusing on managing and optimizing energy consumption, even in the 5 face of sanctions, can help increase exports of gas and petroleum products and reduce the need for investment in development. Increasing production to eight million barrels per day was one of the interesting topics raised for the first time at the IPEC Congress last year to attract the views of both pros and cons on the necessity of the issue. This issue immediately started a new wave of discussions and actions in the oil industry and was studied in various forums, managerial and expert meetings and even led to some decisions. At the same time, the coronavirus epidemic in Iran, like all countries in the world, has created special and new conditions and not only did it spark serious discussions about the effects of sanctions on countries’ economies and people’s health (in terms of providing medicines and essential items such as ventilators, masks, vaccines, and medical supplies); It has also influenced the way many events are held. This situation, as well as the continuation of structural changes and sanctions, prompted congressional staff to be more sensitive in the sixth term to outline new topics and select the subject of the panels. Therefore, in addition to making changes in the method of holding the IPEC Congress, which will be part-time and online, in choosing the topic of the meetings, care has been taken to have at least one meeting on the future of oil, product and petrochemical The 6th Iranian Petroleum & Energy Club Congress Exhibition export markets and one meeting is dedicated to the role of international cooperation in the post-Covid era. I hope that the results of these talks will pave the way for a new and effective way for the country’s energy sector, which is at one of its most critical times.
