Social Drive – 27th January 2016 Cultural Committee Report 2016-17 As is the case every year, the Cultural committee was formed at the beginning of the academic year. This year elections were conducted to elect the new cultural secretary. There was a fair chance given to all the students who expressed desire to stand for elections. A time frame was allotted for canvassing and the elections were conducted under the supervision of the teachers who are a part of the Cultural team. The newly elected Cultural Secretary then chose his team and formed different sub committees to handle the various functions. There were a lot of subtle changes that the college saw in terms of cultural activities. Normally, the Committee sees to it that there are various cultural activities conducted throughout the year. This year it was decided to club together all the activities and competitions into a weeklong celebration like a carnival which would then culminate into grand celebration of the Jashn-e-Rizvi. This Carnival was scheduled to be hosted around mid January 2017. We did celebrate Independence Day in the college as Martyr’s Day. After the F lag hoisting by our principal Dr M Z Farooqui, the NCC cadets performed a march past and were awarded their ranks. Our students enacted the lives and famous dialogues of five martyrs viz, Gandhiji, Bhagat Singh, Razia Sultan, Rani Laxmibai, Subhash Chandra Bhose. This was followed by singing of patriotic songs by the students. The programme was concluded with a street play on Jallianwalla Bagh presented by the drama troupe of the college. As per the new planned schedule, preparations for the much awaited Carnival and Jashn-e- Rizvi were on in full swing under the aegis of our then administrator Mr Akram. But at the beginning of the New Year we were faced with the news of the sad demise of the Secretary of our Education Society, Mr Abis Rizvi. Following this news all Cultural activities for the year were suspended. The objective was to give away clothes, food, books, shoes, toys and anything usable to the needy and deprived children living in the areas around the college.
