JULY 16 | NOON – 9 PM SALUTE The Michigan Jazz Festival salutes Nancy Salden Nancy Salden is the ultimate jazz lover and supporter. Growing up in a very musical family helped to devel- op her love of music— family parties of polka and music; with her Dad listening to classical records on Sunday afternoons. As she grew older, she liked the singing groups, Motown sound and others. Today she loves all types of music (she describes her taste as “pretty eclectic, to say the least”). Her tastes include not only jazz, but current vocalists, opera, country, blues and classical piano. Nancy’s brother, well-known jazz afcionado Bob Guenther, infuenced her love of jazz. He introduced her to the Greater Detroit Jazz Society (of which she is a Patron) and the Michigan Jazz Festival. Brother and sister can be seen almost daily at the same Detroit-area venues supporting live jazz. Through these associations, Nancy has met many outstanding musicians and new friends that continue to nurture her passion. She is a friend to all with her pleasant smile, fun spirit and generous demeanor. The Michigan Jazz Festival loves Nancy Salden and appreciates the good work she does to support live jazz in our area. Since 2011 the MJF Big Band Stage has been named in her honor, and this year we are additionally saluting her as our 2017 Festival Honoree. Says Nancy, “music will always be a very important love in my life. The Michigan Jazz Festival is a highlight in my year and, through donations, it will continue for many years to come. Thanks to the Board of Directors for this privilege. I am greatly honored.” 2 STAGE HOSTS Ron English Linda Yohn The veteran jazz guitarist and former college The morning host and music director for several English professor transfers from performer to decades at WEMU, 89.1 FM, Linda has been a stage announcer.
