RESPECT SAFETY LEARNING PRINCES HIGHWAY, CORRIMAL 2518 P 4284 4231 E [email protected] 1 Week 2 Term 1 BUSH FIRE STATIONERY DONATIONS I was humbled by the generosity of the Corrimal community and that of the wider community in their support of what I thought was going to be a small bush fire appeal. It was amazing to see how many donations we received. This started off asa conversation between Kelly, our P&C President, and myself and it just grew wings. So many people were involved in a variety of ways I won't be able to list them all. Here are a few to start - Brooke Dwyer, Kelly Bolton and Jen McCormack who did the coordination of collections and volunteers on the day. Pedemont Relocations and Storage for transporting the donation from Qantas and Mark Spedding and Daniel Critchley for delivering it. Yvette Oudgenoeg from Qantas for packing and coordinating the Qantas donation. We had large collections dropped off from Ryan Park’s office, Corrimal Lions Club, Corrimal High School, UOW College, South Coast Private Hospital, Wollongong Hospital Renal & Endoscopy Unit, Accor Plus Wollongong – and plenty of others. We also had individual donations from over 30 families throughout the day – just astonishing. At the end of Tuesday we had approximately counted, sorted and packed – • 250 packets of coloured pencils • 350 packets of lead pencils • 350 packets of pens • 50 packets of crayons • 200 rulers • 200 glue sticks • 150 erasers • 150 pairs of scissors • 150 pencil sharpeners • 150 packets of highlighters • 100 hand-made library bags • 100 pencil cases • 100 ‘back to school packs’ including pencil cases, pencils, glue, textas etc • 50 backpacks • 50 boxes of crayons • Lunch boxes, drink bottles, maths kits, liquid paper, whiteboard markers, chalk and lots of other amazing items And more exercise books than I think any of us could ever have imagined! We ended up with about 30 boxes of things sorted between the 8 schools and the 1 preschool. Then on Wednesday a truck arrived from Qantas with more boxes of stationery and backpacks filled with back to school gear which was again divided between the 8 schools. A delivery from Officeworks due to a donation of $530 by a very generous community member. Our stage in the hall is full of boxes waiting to be delivered to the 8 schools in the Bega Valley area affected by fire. A big thank you to Jamie Veech, of JNT Veech Excavations, who has kindly donated his time and truck to deliver the goods to our contact down south. He is going to drive over 6 hours each way to ensure these goods land safely ready to be delivered. RESPECT SAFETY LEARNING PRINCES HIGHWAY, CORRIMAL 2518 P 4284 4231 E [email protected] 2 Week 2 Term 1 BUSH FIRE STATIONERY DONATIONS CONT. Unfortunately the fires were still unstable this weekend so we will be looking at possibly delivering next weekend. I cannot believe how many people we reached with our Facebook page – 16,313. To have that many people reached by one small post was truly amazing. CONGRATULATIONS CORRIMAL COMMUNITY – YOU ARE AMAZING! STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE COUNCIL Each year students elect SRC representatives for their class. These students have an important role, as they represent “the voice” of their class and fellow students, by enhancing their school life through promoting engaging opportunities within the school setting. These elections will be happening this week so that we are ready to begin the year with a positive student voice. FREE SAFER INTERNET PRESENTATION – BULLI PCYC Bulli PCYC will be holding a Safer Internet evening on Tuesday 11th February, 2020. The presentation will go from 7pm to 8pm. This event is free. We have chosen to include this flyer as our students' safety online has been at the forefront of our minds recently. We are aware that some of our students have social media accounts and are not the legal age to do so. We do strongly encourage parents/carers to take up the opportunity to access this free resource. You will find a copy of the flyer in this newsletter and our Skoolbag app. Bulli PCYC have requested all those who wish to attend, make a booking, for catering purposes. See information on page 12. RESPECT SAFETY LEARNING PRINCES HIGHWAY, CORRIMAL 2518 P 4284 4231 E [email protected] 3 Week 2 Term 1 SWIMMING CARNIVAL In 2020 we are trialling the School Swimming Carnival to be a competitor only event for students 8 years and up who can swim 50 metres. This trial has occurred due to the limited time for the carnival, safety and supervision of students. We will continue to share the facilities and carnival with Bellambi Public School who are also inviting competitors only to the event. This year we have engaged the support of our local high school, to boost the number of volunteers. Parents and carers are most welcome to attend. MEET THE TEACHER SESSIONS – Save the date Teachers will be holding “Meet the Teacher Sessions” Tuesday 12 February in the afternoon. Notes will be sent home this week regarding meeting times. I encourage parents to attend this meeting as it will provide a great insight into the coming year for your child. We will hold two sessions, one for K-2 and another for 3-6. P&C MEETING Our next P&C meeting will be held on Thursday, 13 February at 6pm. We usually hold our meetings on a Tuesday but due to a clash we are holding the meeting on the Thursday instead. The meeting will be held in the Library and we hope to see many of you there.
