ARMY INSTITUTE OF EDUCATION NAAC ACCREDITED & ISO 9001:2015 CERTIFIED INSTITUTE Plot M-1, Pocket P-5, Sec. CHI, Greater NOIDA Report on national workshop 1. Dr Tania Gupta, Principal AIE participated in National Workshop on ‘Qualitative Research Methods in Social Sciences’ with focus theme Equality and Social Justice organized by Centre for Academic Leadership & Education Management (CALEM), Department of Education, Panjab University, Chandigarh under PMMMNMTT Scheme of MHRD, Government of India from 20-26 May 2019. The venue for the workshop was ICSSR Complex located inside the University campus. 2. Nearly 700 applications for participation in the National Workshop were received by the organizers. The Selection Committee screened the applications and selected 40 participants from across 15 states of India representing various social science disciplines- education, legal studies, anthropology, political science, history, sociology, psychology, public administration, economics. In addition, 10 participants from Panjab University Chandigarh attended the Workshop. 3. The National Workshop was inaugurated on 20 May 2019 in the august presence of renowned educationist, Krishna Kumar, Former Professor of Education Delhi University, Padma Shri, Former Director NCERT New Delhi, Honorary Professor Department of Education Panjab University Chandigarh. The Keynote address on the theme was delivered by Padma M. Sarangapani Professor in Education, and Chairperson, Centre for Education, Innovation and Action, Research Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai followed by the address of the Chief Guest Devinder Singh, Professor of Laws, Coordinator Ambedkar Study Centre, SVC, PU Chandigarh. 4. Graded sub-themes based on maxim of ‘simple to complex’ were facilitated for the participants to deepen their understanding on the need, importance, methodology and issues in qualitative research over the seven days. Eminent academicians engaged the participants in day long interactive sessions and hands on learning on use of grounded research theory, narratives, testimonies, phenomenology, ethnography, ontological and epistemological assumptions underlying qualitative and quantitative research, qualitative data analysis, culture as an archive of history writing, discourse and content analysis, observation and quickly occurring talk. 5. Prominent resource persons were invited from renowned educational institutions such as TISS Mumbai; Central Institute of Education, University of Delhi; NUEPA, New Delhi; JNU, New Delhi; MS University Baroda; Mahatma Gandhi University Wardha; Panjab University, Chandigarh and Central University of Punjab, Bhatinda (copy of schedule attached for session wise details). 6. S. Sardara Singh Johl, Padma Bhushan and Economist, Former VC, Punjab Agricultural University. Ludhiana & Punjabi University, Patiala and present Chancellor, Central University of Punjab, Bhatinda delivered the Valedictory Address held on 26 May 2019. This was followed by awarding certificates of participation to the delegates of the workshop. 7. Insights and skills developed during the National workshop shall be shared with faculty AIE during a few sessions by Principal AIE in a special series of ‘Enrichment through Peer Learning’.
