Paragon Park

HULL, 1904 BOOK 905, PAGE 212 PARAGON PARK Located on Historic Nantasket Beach Home to the Tallest Wooden Roller Coaster and the Famous Paragon Carousel Paragon Park was an amusement park located on Hull’s Nantasket Beach. Opened in 1905 and operated for years by the Stone family, it provided entertainment to families from all over America at one of our area's most visited vacation spots at the time. Beginning with a man-made lagoon which offered rides on authentic gondolas and a Chinese junk with sail, Paragon Park’s offerings changed over time with changes in technology. Rides included the “Congo Cruise”, the “Wild Mouse”, and a 96 foot high wooden roller coaster, the “Giant Coaster” among others. Paragon Park was visited by families through several generations. The park was closed in 1984 and turned into condominiums. At the time the amusements at Paragon Park were being dismantled and sold at auction, local activists convinced the land developer to purchase the carousel and relocate it to a nearby site. When the carousel was about to be sold by investors in 1995, a group of people formed a non-profit organization, “The Friends of the Paragon Carousel, Inc.”, who purchased and renovated the carousel. The Paragon Carousel is located on the National Register of Historic Places. It remains, in the words of “the Friends of the Carousel”, “The last vestige of Paragon Park” and is a reminder of the “Golden Age” of Hull. Compliments of Register of Deeds John R. Buckley, Jr. and James Michael Tobin Former Hull Selectman From the “Plymouth County Registry of Deeds Notable Land Records Collection” .
