The following chart lists all 80 State Forest units, their predominant TNC Ecoregion, DEC Region, office and acreage, organized by year of scheduled completion of the draft UMP and its submittal to Albany. UMPs have been scheduled to be completed and updated on a 10-year cycle. All areas of the state have been assigned to a unit. This will allow for future incorporation of new acquisitions or lands under different management classifications (example: Wildlife Management Areas) into predefined UMP areas without creating additional units. Although changes can be made, this configuration reflects regional input and will require only minor adjustments in the future. Each unit’s area was defined using a 6-tier hierarchy. Highest weight was given to TNC Ecoregion Code regional considerations. The second tier used St. Lawrence/Champlain Valley SL-CV current UMP configuration. The third tier Northern Appalachian/Acadian NAP conformed to regional boundaries. The Great Lakes GL fourth tier conformed to county boundaries. Western Allegheny Plateau WAP The fifth tier considered The Nature New York High Allegheny Plateau HAP Conservancy (TNC) Ecoregional boundaries. Lower New England/Northern Piedmont LNE-NP The final tier emphasized other geographic North Atlantic Coast NAC limitations.
