PHIL, FCPS PROFESSOR OF HAEMATOLOGY FAUJI FOUNDATION UNIVERSITY MEDICAL COLLEGE, ISLAMABAD ________________________________________________________________________ Professor Dr. Zahur Ur Rehman was born in Feb 1943 at Abbottabad. He graduated from Khyber Medical College Peshawar in 1968 and joined Armed Forces in 1969 & started his carrier in Pathology in 1971. After one year basic training in Pathology at Armed Forces Institute of Pathology (AFIP) Rawalpindi, he qualified membership examination of College of Physicians & Surgeons Pakistan in 1976. He qualified M. Phil Haematology from Punjab University in 1987. After further training at AFIP he was accepted as fellow of College of Physicians & Surgeons (CPSP) Pakistan in 1990. Since then he has been actively involved in teaching & training of undergraduates as well as postgraduate students in discipline of Pathology in general & haematology in particular in various institutions of the country. For further grooming & learning latest developments in Haematology, he proceeded to UK in 1993 for on job training in Haematology. He worked in renowned institutions like St George’s Hospital London, Royal Marsdon Hospital Sutton & Royal Free Hospital London. He worked as senior Pathologist in various military hospitals of all the three forces (Army, Navy, Air Force) & in institutions like Army Medical College Rawalpindi & Armed Forces Institute of Pathology Rawalpindi for many years. He was appointed as Professor & Head of Haematology Department at AFIP Rawalpindi from Feb 1999 to Feb 2002. He reached the zenith of his career when he was appointed Commandant AFIP Rawalpindi in 2000 till his retirement in Feb 2002. He contributed a lot in training of MCPS, M. Phil & FCPS candidates and is an accepted supervisor for MCPS & FCPS training. He has been invited for conducting different examinations in Pathology & Haematology in various Institutions & Universities like CPSP, Bahria University, Baqai Medical University Karachi and Hamdard University Karachi. He remained involved in various research activities. His main interest is a- Thalassemia. He published a handsome number of papers, participated in various conferences and arranged workshops symposia & seminars. After retirement from Armed Forces in 2002 he continued his career as a teacher / trainer & served as professor of Pathology in various Medical Colleges, (Frontier Medical College Abbottabad, Margala Institute of Health Sciences & Baqai Medical University Karachi). He served at Wah Medical College Wah Cantt as Professor of Hematology & Consultant Hematologist at POF Hospital Wah Cantt. He was coordinator preclinical & coordinator of examination for University of Health Sciences. He joined Foundation University Medical College, Islamabad as Professor of Haematology and since then he has been involved in leading & training of not only undergraduates but is also supervisor of Haematology for FCPS part II trainee in Haematology. He is also serving as consultant Haematologist in Fauji Foundation Hospital Rawalpindi. He is also part time consultant in Haematology to CITI Lab Rawalpindi for the last about 03 years.
