The discretion of the Principal is the deciding factor, at all times. Each student has the obligation of wearing the prescribed school uniform. If, due to an emergency, it is impossible for a student to be in full uniform, the student must bring a note from a parent as to the reason he/she is unable to wear the entire uniform for the day. In the event that a note is not presented, the parent will be called to bring the appropriate attire to school. Principal and teachers exercise the right to make judgments concerning dress and appearance guidelines. St. Joseph School students in grades K-8 wear uniforms according to these guidelines: Jumpers, skirts, shorts, and shorts must be no shorter than two inches above the knee. Baggy pants may not be worn at any time and pants may not be worn below the natural waist. Shirts must be tucked in at all times. Belts must be worn if required by the shorts or pants and may be solid black, brown, or navy. Brownie/Scout uniforms may be worn on meeting days. Hair should be its natural color only and must be neat with bangs above the eyebrow. Boys’ hair must be above and not touch the shirt collar and trimmed around the ears. No extreme cuts or fade hairstyles such as Mohawks, Step-cuts, designs, lines, sculpting, taper, or spiked hair. Extreme hair coloring and bleaching is not permitted. No beads or feathers may be worn in the hair. Girl headbands must match school colors. Scrunchies, hair clips, rubber bands, etc. must be in the hair, not worn on the wrists. No cosmetics, lip-gloss, colored chap stick, nail polish, or artificial nails may be worn. No body piercing is permitted, except pierced ears Girls ONLY. Girls may wear one pair of earrings, if they are small ones, for pierced ears, confined to the lower part of the earlobe. Dangling earrings are not acceptable. Boys may not wear earrings of any type. Jewelry is limited to one watch, one ring, and simple crosses or holy medals on narrow silver or gold chains. 4 .
