He was born 1791 near the mouth of Crowders Creek. His first employment was as a merchant in Cheraw. He returned to York Disttrict at the time of the war of 1812. He was elected Clerk of Court in `1816. He was reelected severa times and when his health declined, his cousin, William Randolph Hill, who was only sixteen performed his duties. He died 1820 unmarried. Hugh 1783-1849 Employed as Hauler at Clarks Fork, 1845. Hugh First of the family to come to Am. Born in 1714 in Scotland and came to Am Sept 13, 1736. Lived a few years in Hartford County, Maryland where he married Margaret Hope (daughter of James Thomas Hope of Scotland) and moved to SC and settled on waters of Bullock's Creek.
