The Trolley Renewal Project The Trolley Renewal Project is a joint project of the San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG) and the San Diego Metropolitan Transit System (MTS). Once complete, new low-floor Trolleys will operate throughout the system. All stations will be equipped with next-arrival signs, new shelters, and seating. The end result will be easier access, quicker trips, a more comfortable ride, and an enhanced transit experience. This work is part of a $660 million project to renew the entire MTS Trolley network. Funding for the project was provided by TransNet, the regional half-cent sales tax for transportation administered by SANDAG; California Proposition 1A and 1B; and the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
